Bears sign Russell; Waive Anderson

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Chicago Bears today signed running back Fred Russell to the practice squad. To make room on the eight-man squad for the 5-7, 191-pound rookie, the Bears waived OL Bryan Anderson.

Russell was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Miami Dolphins and was signed to their practice squad after leading the team in rushing in the preseason. An all-Big Ten pick out of Iowa, Russell averaged 4.7 yards on 23 preseason carries (107 yards) during the preseason. The Michigan native was cut from Miami's practice squad on Sept. 11.

Oh well, good to hear for an Iowa/Bears fan. To see your star RB go to your favorite team.

Sign of things to come? I mean A Train goes bye-bye and then the Bears sign Russell to the team as a 3rd stringer.

Back before we signed TJ, I thought that an A-train/Russel backfield would look pretty good.

I really like Fred Russell. He ran very well versus State last year.

I know nothing about this guy, but when I looked at his height and weight, I immediately thought of Quentin Griffin (5'7, 195 lbs). I can't see how you could be pushing 200 pounds when you're only 5'7.

People say that Ladanian Tomlinson and Tiki Barber are short, but those guys are both 5'10.

We're talking about some straight up midgets in NFL terms.

What is Russell's 40 time?

I'm a huge Russel fan. I wanted the Bears to draft him and now that he's on the practice squad I'm a happy camper. Hopefully he can play his way onto the roster.

Funny You should mention it -- Back at the old bears board I nearly got laughed off the thing for suggesting the bears take QG in the 3rd round last season...

Russell is exactly the same type of back as Griffin. You need a good O-line for them to be effective, but if you've got a line, they're freakin dangerous.
