Ross Gload O-Meter

Featured Replies

That's the one area he had to prove something to me.  I knew he could hit, but his final two seasons in AAA, he wasn't exactly a selective hitter.  That's not something you expect out of a guy who spent 3+ years at AAA.

I see his '02 OBP was .338 w/ 19 BB's, and in '03 his obp was .349, with 29 BB's. Wasn't he the #3 or 4 hitter for Charlotte in 03? That might explain why he had few walks hitting in an RBI spot in the order.

But Ross' eye has definitely improved w/ regular playing time. He's working counts, trying to get in hitters' counts. If he hits down in the order next year, [provided he starts at 1B]-- 6, 7 or 8, he would likely be expected to continue working counts to get on base. That has been a big weakness of the Sox--lower order guys with low OBP and who are often easy outs. Guys like Jose, Joe B, Davis, Crede have killed the Sox with their '3 strikes and your out' hitting styles and I don't want to see this movie again next year.

Gload gets a hit to extend his hitting-streak to 14 games. Too bad the season ends Sunday, it'd be fun to see how long he could go. Grounded out with the bags loaded today, so his average with the bases loaded unfortunately drops. To .727.

Can you say 15 game hit-streak? Ross was at a disadvantage with lefty Anderson on the mound, but managed to keep the streak alive with a line shot single in the 9th. Congrats AL Rookie of the Month!

Gload is hitting lefties in the .450 range. Must not be a disadvantage for him.

It's too small a sample size. In his minor league career, he didn't fare well against them.

I agree, just saying this year he has been doing really well against them

Anyone got the final tally on Ross? I guess I would just like to say that Ross has been a bright spot the season for me. And hopefully he'll be back with us in the Spring.
