Interesting thing I saw in the Trib today said that the ATL owner was fined $250,000 for saying that if the strike wasn't resolved after this year, that they woudl bring in replacement players. After the fine, the Thrashers owner said that he "deeply regretted" his comments "which were my personal, uninformed views" Sure they were.... :rolly

Which raises an interesting question:

Do you think there'd be many players willing to suit up as replacement players, and how far down the ranks would they have to go to find enough guys to fill all the NHL rosters?

I was about to joke that "I already watch the Thrashers' replacement players - they're called The Wolves" but I doubt many of the Wolves would sign on as replacements.

Whattya think?

Honestly I think they will close down the NHL and declare an impasse, and start all over again without the NHLPA having dink to say about it. It is much cleaner that way, and the owners get to do everything they want to do without the ugliness of negotitaions and compromise.

That move would get tied up in court for yeeeaaaarrrrssss.

Not if the owners just start a whole new league.

There is NO WAY the owners could just drop it all and start up a new league without SERIOUS charges of unfair labor negotiations and union-busting, and that would definitely end up in court. It would set a very dangerous precedent and I think ALL labor unions would join the NHLPA's fight if the owners attempted that.

It's simply not that easy, especially in these hyper-litigious times we live in.

That is a very interesting idea to say the least. I wouldn't doubt the owners doing that and what else could the players do? Unless of course they don't mind playing in the minors or in Europe somewhere. It would only be a matter of time b4 the players would join together again to form another union though. Hell the Federal courts probably wouldn't allow it.

The Wolves open up in M'waukee on Friday and then the Home opener is Saturday at the Allstate Horizon.

Thanks for that helpful information.

Hadn't seen that posted anywhere in this thread....

What are you so angry about?

Were you that eager to see the Slacks get pwned like the b****es that they are by a low rent organization like the Minnesota Wild?

I do agree with you that the Wolves rock. Last November when I was home I went to a game and I parked my car, got a great seat, ate and got a kickass Wolves cap for under 50 bucks. That is about 125 bucks in Slackhawk land and for a far inferior on-ice performance.

Personally I dont give a s*** if the NHL rots away to nothing. The players are, for the most part, a bunch of whiny overpaid pussies and the owners are all a bunch of greedy old bastards who would steal from their own childrens piggy bank.

One thing the players and owners do have in common though is that they both care NOTHING about their fans and thats why the NHL has precious few of those anymore.

Hey, Nuke,

While the post was mostly sarcastic, I am pissed that the owners and players can't figure out a way to solve their dispute, and more pissed that they're not even trying.

I'm not upset about the SlackHawks not playing, except that they finally do seem to have a few young players worth watching ( and yes, I DO realize that we'll only see them in Chicago until it's time to pay them ). I AM upset about not seeing the Red Wings, Lightning, Flyers, Bruins, etc etc etc. I love hockey, and I WANT to see NHL hockey.

I'll always watch the Wolves, but I'd like to have more hockey on TV. It's not as if ESPN is going to start showing the AHL Game Of The Week.
