do the white sox have a plan

it seems to me there's some divergence in the sox approach to trades and free agency.

when it comes to trades, the sox behave like a large-market team, regularly dealing from their minor league system for "name" players who they think might push them over the top.

yet when it comes to free agency, they take a decidedly small-market approach, i.e. eschewing big contract signings, insisting on shorter deals as opposed to longer ones, and consistently getting into pissing contests with agents over contract details.

now, i'm well aware of why it has worked out this way, but stepping back for a second it does not seem to me that this is a real sound way to run a franchise — behaving like a big-market team for half the year and a small-market team for another. we'd probably be better off sticking with a consistent approach.

Yes they DO.

Raise Ticket Prices and Beer prices. Be cheap on players ;)

I think they do. Kenny constantly refers to his 3 year organizational list and how he will not trade players on it. Miguel Olivo is the only guy he had on that list that he dealt. Of course I still highly doubt Jeremy Reed wasn't on that list, but oh well.

The big question is does he only have one plan in mind and when the guy he wants goes elsewhere he'll take another guy who fits into that same peg, but not really to the best benefit of the club. Since I believe he was pretty much non existent in Guzman (media may say one thing, but I don't think the Sox were ever that intersted in him; they just speculated the Sox were desperate for a ss and would be the team bidding big bucks for Guz) it at least makes me hopeful he isn't going to go this route.

However, part of me thinks Ozzie is a really stubborn person (ala Kenny) and they both kind of write guys off and may never dilvuge into their stats. I hope this is not the case, but I tend to get this belief from Ozzie more then I do Kenny.

I mean I still think Guzman was essentially a Ozzie Guillen clone and that ain't worth 5 mill a year
