Can someone give me all the players with their salaries and years until they become free agents? And what is the deal with Thomas and all his options? I hope he is able to stay with us until he retires.

This is potentially Thomas's final year. The Sox hold a buyout on his contract after this year if I recall.

Well its likely his final year under this contract, although he could very well resign again for less. While Kenny doesn't like Frank, him and JR have an outstanding relationship.

Just like JR and Arn Tellem (his agent) have a great relationship which is why I think if Nomar doesn't get much loving out their that the Sox could swoop in and be a player on a one year deal.

A buyout? Whats that mean? Im gonna be very disappointed if we let Thomas get away. Let him finish his career here, and lets not screw him like we have other stares (ie Ventura and Fisk) Kenny better realize that the fans come to the park to support players we love, such as Big Frank, not snobbish businessmen like him.

You give him whatever amount his buyout out is, i forgot how much it is for. The he becomes a free agent.

I think its like a 2.5 million buyout. So instead of the Sox accepting his 9 or 10 million player option (not sure what it is) they could instead buy out his contract (meaning he can't accept his option either) and he becomes a free agent but does get his buyout from the White Sox.

For example the New York Mets declined the 10 million dollar option on Al Leiter, instead choosing to go with his 2 million dollar buyout, making him a free agent.

I use to go to an exceptional site for players contracts and they went into deal quite well. But he has been moving it to another sever and it should be up pretty soon. He said thomas is in the top five for the trickiest contract in baseball. Which i would have to agree with.

So next year we could pay Thomas $2.5 million, and he would be an FA. Or we could take his $9 million option and hed stay with us. Am I correct?

Ya, roughly that. I don't have the numbers on me right now, but thats essentially how it works, give or take a million bucks.

I agree with you wanting to keep Thomas around. I couldn't imagine him in another uniform. It would be like Jordan wearing a wizards jersey or Will Perdue wearing a Spurs jersey. It's just not the same.

thomas's contract has neutral options for the next couple years

player's option for xxx dollars, if player declines option, team can pick up option for xx dollars. each year the dollars change tho its not a buyout

2003: $5.0M

2004: Dual option $6.0M player/$8.0M team

2005: Dual option $8.0M player/$11.0M team

2006: Dual option $10.0M player/$12.0M team or $3.5M buyout

-Player receives $1M loan and can void deal after 2003

-Can receive up to $2M in bonuses for top 10 MVP finish

Does that mean the Sox have the option of buying out his contract right away, or does it mean that he can pick up his option before the Sox can buyout his contract and they can do nothing about it? I'm confused on that topic

From the way that reads, Frank can pick up the option. If he doesn't then the Sox have the choice or their option or the buyout.

Makes sense to me, guess I just needed someone to tell me.

In that case, I see no reason Frank won't be a White Sox in 2006. Why would he not pick up his option?

There is no reason he wouldn't that I can think of unless he has an MVP type of year, which he is still capable of, imho.

Even then though, I'm not sure he'd get $10 mill on the open market.

Him making $6 mill this past year...that was a steal, even considering he only played half a season. $8 mill is when it starts to become a burden, and $10 mill will hurt us a lot.
