YASNY
Let's offer him $7,000,001. I want this guy handling our pitching staff if we can't get Kendall.
Hatchetman
we'll offer $6,999,999 and say, "we tried." which is ok by me in this instance.

USAF_11F4H
For a 35 yo, primarily defensive, catcher? $3.5 a year?
YASNY
I believe a catcher can make all the difference in the world with a pitching staff.
whitesox61382
For a 35 yo, primarily defensive, catcher? $3.5 a year? Age is definately a concern, but this guy can hit as well. This past season he hit a solid .272/9/58 .742 OPS. He has a career OPS of .750, and he has posted a .740+ OPS in 6 of the last 7 seasons. Obviously, his defense is very good. The guy has thrown out at least 34% of base stealers in every year in the majors. He has also worked with about a dozen CY calibur pitchers the past 3 years, and has the reputation of being a good handler of pitchers. I have mentioned Miller as a possible short-term upgrade, and I think 2 years/7.5M is a reasonable price for him.

qwerty
Yes if his name is I-rod.. otherwise nope Catcher imo opinion is the most important position in the game, followed by short. Did you know miller is one of the best catchers in the game today? Every pitcher he has ever caught seems to love him.
quickman
I would consider this a redsox back up or back up plan. If another team stepped up and matched and promised to start the guy he would probably jump. But the wsox have a plan and we are all just sheep in the grand plan. YASNY
Yes if his name is I-rod.. otherwise nope I'm not talking about a catcher's bat or throwing arm, I'm talking about a catcher's ability to handle and get the most out of a pitching staff. IRod did quite well in Florida, but that's it. His abilities in that area were very much in question when he left the Rangers. I don't think Detroit's pitching staff turned any heads last year, either.
Pastime
From what I've read, he's a Scott BorASS client, and Kenny has already dismissed any discussions with a client with BorASS as an agent. However, with the interest in Miller, it seems like Boston is resigned to the fate that they won't be able to re-sign Varitek. Boo hoo. At least they won the big prize. I don't feel any sympathy for them anymore, or ever again. Yes, it's bitterness.
