December 9, 200421 yr trading for sheets might cost a lot but not as much as that oliver perez deal someone else mentioned.... while i would be happy with sheets regardless the price unless like it was buehrle which wont happen id prefer we sign odalis perez who is a FA and we dont lose any players. Or maybe we sign Perez then use a package of garland and like anderson or something to get Sheets now that would be one hell of a rotation and with KW anything can happen
December 9, 200421 yr I meant just for those two Guys... I think Bowden could concievably land both of them. (I don't know what his budget) Given the same price, I would prefer Perez to Ortiz, though I think Ortiz is going to command more. Would Perez be that bad of a signing? It all depends on the money of course, but RotoWorld mentioned 5 million per for him. I think that's definitely low, but for 6 million or so I wouldn't be unhappy. His numbers the last 3 years are reasonable, and his home/road splits aren't bad, and he's nor old (although he may be hurt...). I think he could post a low 4 ERA, and that's just as good as Wright or Leiber would have done IMO. Anyway, I don't think the Sox will spend any significant money on a SP. I would look for maybe one position player signing (Dye? a middle infielder?) and that's it. If anything really significant happens it will be through a trade, I think

Whether its Bartolo Colon, David Wells, Juan Uribe, Roberto Alomar, Carl Everett there wasn't proir speculation of their arrival here. KW stating his intentions ofworking "under the radar" shrouds more mystery on this offseason. Even for Garcia, the popular consensus was Rauch/Majewski/B Prospect would landed him. (Search through old threads) No one believed Olivo would be included. I wouldn't have been surprised if Williams would have traded Lee in place of Konerko (including Garland/Andersen) in exchange for RJ. If he would have accepted a trade here, that is. There was a LOT of talk about the posiibility of acquiring Colon before that deal was made. No one thought KW could pull it off, then they credited Cashman for it when he did.

Yeah, but IIRC that had all died down by the time the trade went down. At least I recall being surprised b/c I thought it was a lost cause.

The rumors flew for a while, then died down. It turned out that Kenny was calling Minaya(sp?) 3 or 4 times a day for weeks trying to work this deal.

Are you saying that on average a fans spends $160.23 each game they attend? If so that appears to be a gross amount and doesn't take into account any expenses other than salary.

Me personally, I prefer calculations by a little more reputable nuetral party. Especially since FCI doesn't include revenues that go to other sources, such as contract labor and services. It would only look at total revenue generated by the Sox, all of which does not go to the baseball team. Try Forbes for example who is in the business of evaluating public companies. They list the White Sox total revenue at $124 million. Nice try with the $310 million though. Especially since the Yankees total revenue was $238 million for 2003. And now to finish the stats which you will conviently ignore again, the Sox had an operating income in 2003 of 12.8 million dollars. This is total profits without taking out depreciation, taxes, interest, and/or amortization. Damn JR is getting rich! Oh wait, lets go to the payroll numbers Alex... 2003 payroll $51 million 2004 payroll $63 million An increase of $12 million. What an odd number for the payroll to go up, huh? If so that appears to be a gross amount and doesn't take into account any expenses other than salary. The Fan Cost Index, is probally the only true way to measure the actually numbers they take into account The FCI includes: two adult average price tickets; two child average price tickets; four small soft drinks; two small beers; four hot dogs; two programs; parking; and two adult-size caps. Granted not everyone gets those, but it is hard to figure the guy who drinks 8 beers gets 4 dogs and a diet coke. This is the best numbers you can figure on, I am still working on finding what the money deal is for the SOx in the new Comast deal.

If FCI includes 4 tickets and you multiply this by total attendance ( which I assume 1,930, 537 is) your total money would be about 4 higher than it actually is. I guess 4 times is a little high, but I would say off the top of my head, at least twice as high.
