Mets signed first baseman Luis Garcia to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

This is the good Luis Garcia, not the former Orioles reserve. The 26-year-old hit .314/.354/.584 for Triple-A Las Vegas last season. He may not be quite strong enough to play regularly for a major league team, but he wouldn't be a bad use of a roster spot.

    He really had a miserable 2003 with the Indians.
