December 16, 200421 yr It seems rather obvious at this point that if the White Sox pick up there starter via the trade route, which is quite possible with the FA market being set as high as it is, then who do you want or do you see as the Sox 5th starter? Personally I think regardless of who they get, they need to pick up a guy to a one year stop gap contract until McCarthy or another prospect is ready. I think Elo would look fantastic as a #5 and I think he'd consider an incentive deal if he doesn't get a great offer anywhere else. Especially if he thinks the Sox are going to be a really good team, cause we've all seen what being showcased in the playoffs can do for someone, plus just being on a good team. However, I think if JR was serious he should take a big time look at Kevin Millwood who will look for a contract similar to Matt Morris. A one year deal with a base of 2-3.5 million and that amount in incentives. Its a great deal for both teams, as if he pitches his ass off the Sox rotation looks phenomenal and the team should be very good and if he doesn't you get him at a solid price and he should (assuming healthy) at least be an innings eater. Plus he's going to have a lot to prove signing a one year deal. I'm more trading Garland/Marte/Anderson for Hudson (if thats what it takes and if the Sox are prepared to offer him 3 to 4 years at 12-13 mill a season). The Sox would see a net increase in payroll of only like 3 million this year, which means they would still have some funds available to add Millwood and maybe even Pyrz to a one year deal (although I'd like to go multi year with him). Then convince Scho to be the left handed reliever if possible. Could you guys imagine Hudson Buehrle Garcia Contreras Millwood Geeze that would be fantastic.
December 16, 200421 yr if they got Hudson, I would prefer a lefty 5th starter...if possible. Just to break up the rotation a little bit. I don't know if Alvarez has it anymore to be a starter.
December 16, 200421 yr yes....if they were to go the trade route for a number 1/2 pitcher then i also hope it's hudson. the deal that you have for hudson seems fair to me....i just hope that the sox can figure a deal out similar to that for him. as for the fifth starter....i'd choose between these guys....Sele..Elo..Nomo..and Millwood. They would all make good 5th options on the team.
December 16, 200421 yr Author if they got Hudson, I would prefer a lefty 5th starter...if possible. Just to break up the rotation a little bit. I don't know if Alvarez has it anymore to be a starter. Alvarez has resigned with the Dodgers or at least thats what a few people here have posted. I don't remember reading it, but I assume it happened. I know he was expected to.
December 16, 200421 yr As much as I want RJ to be with the Sox, if KW somehow can make a deal with the A's by giving Garland, Marte and Anderson for Tim Hudson, I would take it in a heartbeat. Hudson is MUCH younger than RJ. With Hudson aboard, we can even put Schoenweis in as the 5th starter. Somehow, I have a feelings that Schoe would rebound from last year's terrible performance. Given what I've stated, KW has to LOCK UP Hudson at least 3 years after the trade to make this work. Guess what? This means we can have enough money left to go after Pierzynski AND Polanco, since Hudson will only make $6 mil this year. Go for it KW.
December 16, 200421 yr Author Do you guys realize Millwood is younger then Clement? Geeze, I would of never thunk it. Only by a couple months of course. Mill turns 30 on xmas eve.
December 16, 200421 yr I just dont think Milwood will take anything but $5mil minimum, with a ton of chances for incentives. Boras is his agent, last year he made $11mil. To come down all the way to $2-3 is hard to imagine. Also who knows who will be non-tendered, there could be a good $2-3 mil guy there, and the Milwood and Milton's of the wolrd probably will be the last to sign. SB
December 16, 200421 yr Do you guys realize Millwood is younger then Clement? Geeze, I would of never thunk it. Only by a couple months of course. Mill turns 30 on xmas eve. I don't think Millwood can be had for the amount of money you have projected.

YES....i want to be able to keep my avatar for the whole season....not just until this hudson fiasco is solved.
December 16, 200421 yr Author I don't think Millwood can be had for the amount of money you have projected. I remember reading he wanted a similar deal to what Morris got and that would be pretty much to the T. Both made a ton of money last year too.
December 16, 200421 yr I remember reading he wanted a similar deal to what Morris got and that would be pretty much to the T. Both made a ton of money last year too. In that case I think rounding out the rotation with him would be a nice move to make. We'd have money for both Polanco and Pierz. EDIT: If we didn't deal Garland.
December 16, 200421 yr In this context, as a 5th I want someone who's actually won before. ELo, Millwood, Sele are all former 20 gamers, Washburn is an 18 gamer. They don't have to have their best stuff anymore, they just need to find a way to win 11-12 with what they've still got. Playoff experience is a plus too. I believe Nomo is available too and he's also someone I'd consider.
December 16, 200421 yr And I was a big Milwood fan after 2002, but the last 2 years he has just done nothing to prove that he is worthy of being a frontline starter. I think 2003 is what you will get on average out of Miwood, especially in the AL. 4.0 era, 150-170ks, 8-15 wins. in reality, he could do just as well as Clement, but you would be taking a bigger gamble as Clement has shown improvement, where as Milwood has declined. If you wanted to bet purely on innings, I would say Milwood could give you more bang for your buck. Also Wright got $7mil a year, and I would not bet on Wright having a better year than Milwood. SB

December 16, 200421 yr Now that the A's traded for Ginter...does anybody know what the A's could be asking for Hudson? Well they'd love to get a closer along with another starter, I think Marte would be the closest thing to it available of the teams supposedly in the running.
December 16, 200421 yr The team we're not hearing about is Baltimore. They have Julio, Hairston and Bedard they could give up for Hudson.
December 16, 200421 yr Oh, and Beane would love to have someone take Kendall's contract off his hands. That could easily be a deal closer right there.
December 16, 200421 yr ELO incentive would be a good deal. Yeah too bad he is looking for a 3 year deal. He was close to signing with Cleveland, but they didn't offer enough money.
December 16, 200421 yr The team we're not hearing about is Baltimore. They have Julio, Hairston and Bedard they could give up for Hudson. weren't they offering that for sosa and farnsworth??
December 16, 200421 yr weren't they offering that for sosa and farnsworth?? I don't think Bedard was in that package....
December 16, 200421 yr Not Bedard. I imagine they have Julio and Hairston on the table in any assortment of trade propositions. Still, Baltimore needs an ace. Sosa.......pffffffttt! :headshake

December 16, 200421 yr Next time you think about how bad Reinsdorf is...just look at Angelos. Talk about hit and miss. two years ago he couldn't sign anyone...last year he gets Tejada and Javy Lopez...this year he couldn't sign a deaf person... Get it...sign...deaf... alright...bad.
