ESPN.com news services Cleveland Browns: Romeo Crennel, the Patriots defensive coordinator, is the leading man in the Browns' coaching search, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports. Crennel's track record, his ties to Bill Belichick and his disciplinarian ability to deal with a growing number of Browns malcontents all play in his favor. But there are other known candidates for the Browns post. Browns interim coach Terry Robiskie is to be formally interviewed on Monday. Crennel also faces stiff competition from Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress, who interviewed for six hours Tuesday, and Steelers line coach Russ Grimm, who interviewed Saturday. Other candidates include Dolphins defensive coordinator Jim Bates, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and former Giants coach Jim Fassel. Green Bay Packers: Packers wide receiver Robert Ferguson was inactive for Green Bay's wild-card playoff game against the Vikings on Sunday, ESPN.com has learned. Ferguson performed well at Friday's practice, his first full workout since a hit three weeks ago by Jacksonville's Donovin Darius left him temporarily paralyzed, but he did not initiate in any contact drills. Ferguson was still experiencing headaches, but has regained sensation and strength in his extremities. Team doctors cleared him this week to return to the field. Ferguson is expected to be ready should the Packers defeat the Vikings and advance to face the Atlanta Falcons next week. Denver Broncos: The Broncos signed quarterback Matt Mauck off their practice squad before Sunday's playoff game against Indianapolis and waived running back Johnathan Reese. Mauck, a rookie seventh-round draft pick out of LSU, was on the Broncos' practice squad since Sept. 24. The Broncos played their final 14 regular-season games with Danny Kannel as the only active backup for Jake Plummer. If that does happen, it'll be interesting to see how good the Patriots are next year without their D and O Cordinators from the past few years.
