January 28, 200521 yr Look: Free agent Barry Larkin said tonight that despite receiving interest from three teams that wanted him as a regular, he likely will opt for retirement. Larkin said one American League team offered him a job as a starting second baseman, and two NL teams were interested in him as a starting shortstop. He told them he couldn't commit because he still sees himself as a Red. ''I thought eventually I'd be able to say, yeah, I can do this,'' Larkin said. ''But I'm big on loyalty. I couldn't come to grips with making a 100-percent commitment (to another team).'' Jan. 27 - 8:56 pm et
January 28, 200521 yr Gotta Give Larkin props, wish more players/teams were like him.. loyal to the fans.. and not a paycheck.
January 28, 200521 yr I gotta think he's regretting canceling all the farewell festivites in Cinncinati last season. Its quite a feat now-a-days to play your entire career in on uniform. Hats off to Barry.

Its quite a feat now-a-days to play your entire career in on uniform. Hats off to Barry. Nah..I'm positive Cincy will do something for him. He deserves it. Larkin's a classy guy.
January 28, 200521 yr if he does retire i miss seeing on the plays of the week, he always has some kind of nice catch or grab.
January 28, 200521 yr He can't sign with the Reds, until May 1st right? I think he'll hang them up cause the Reds have no interest in bringing him back and he's loyal. Sheeshh Wish a lot of players were like that now.
January 28, 200521 yr Sad to see him retire, but I totally respect his choice on being loyal to the Reds.
January 28, 200521 yr Guys like Larkin are rare. Makes me appreciate Frank Thomas' time here. I hope he can finish his career with the Sox and like 3 world series rings.
January 28, 200521 yr Larkin said one American League team offered him a job as a starting second baseman The DRays just signed Robbie Alomar to a contract...so why wouldn't they be interested in Larkin? I honestly doubt that was us.
