Forgot to make this thread on Friday, but the season has started for most teams. My Titans beat Stanford on Friday and then again on Saturday to win the series and will go for the sweep today at 1.

There offense struggled both games, but so did Stanfords and Fullerton was able to do the little things to pull the game out.

To be honest I didn't see much talent on the field in either game, minus Ricky Romero the Titans #1 starter. However, part of that reason is probably due to the fact its the beginning of the season and well it wasn't what I would classify as a pretty game.

SIU doesn't have their first game until the 11th out in Florida vs. Stetson for a 3 game set.

One team to really look out for in my opinion is Long Beach State. I think they are really going to shoot up in the polls over the season because they have a pretty damn good looking pitching staff despite losing Weaver. In fact, had they not lost Weaver, I'd say they would have the best pitching staff in the country.

Plus they got Jared Hughes who was a highly rated high school prospect (he was a 16th round pick, and originally committed to Santa Clara). Has a hell of a fastball though.

LoL, probably. I know a couple of guys who played at SIU during the 90s, one drafted by the Yankees and coached in their minor league system for awhile. Now works for the Indians minors.

Sweet, I always here that its one of the funnest events in sports to go to. Hopefully you'll get to see my schools team play there again. It would be the first time they'd made it 3 years in a row.

I played against SIU in 1987 and 1988. I think I missed Finley by a year, but I am not sure. I don't recall playing against him.

Evansville

Didn't Andy Benes go there? They also had a pretty high pick a year or two back but forget who he was.

Yeah Benes is an Evansville Alum. He was the overall #1 pick in the draft in the late 80's if IIRC. Rexy probably can give you the exact year.

Just an update on the two teams that I cheer for.

Texas Tech is 6-1, BA predicts Texas Tech will just miss the tourney, it will be interesting to see how close they can get. Texas Tech was 40-21 last year. TT doesn't really have stars on the team in the Big 12, it will have to be a collective team effort.

North Carolina started the season with 3 straight shutouts over Appalaichin State and Seton Hall twice. The Heels are 4-0 currently and could move into the top 10 from their current #13th position. Heels are very strong pitching wise, will be interesting to see if the hitting can keep up.
