Jason Grilli

Featured Replies

Any one hear anything about Jason? It's been 10 days since he was designated. Nothing on Roto, or MLB transactions.

I don't see him making the team outright, but he he could be pretty handy to have in Charlotte if somebody gets hurt.

I agree and no I haven't heard anything yet either. I assume it's a good thing though if we haven't heard anything. :huh

I doubt Grilli gets a major league contract from any team but who knows. If it's a minor league deal then you'd think chances are as good as any he stays with the White Sox, seeing how they gave him a chance.

But again, that is my logic vs. what normally happens in these types of transactions.

Cynacism aside, I expect him to sign a minor league deal with the Sox. If nothing else he can pitch a lot in spring training to show them and other teams what he's got.

If he shows he can help some team's starting rotation then the Sox won't likely stand in his way, and may even get something for him.

If the handeling of Jamie Burke is any indication of how Kenny treats his favorable minor league talent, you'd have to think Grilli would at least be offered a minor league deal.

Kenny's a big fan of Jason, the person. (and unfortunately, last year he was a fan of Jason, the major league pitcher...hopefully those days are behind us)

I'm one of the few that is hoping some other team picks him up.

As long as he's on the team theres a chance that KW will use him. That scares me to death. The fact is Diaz is a better pitcher. I'm sure he's a nice guy but I don't see him being anything better then the next Jim Parque.

Diaz might be the better pitcher in the sense he showed he could pitch well out of the pen but as of right now Grilli has been the better starter.

Diaz...Two good major league starts and one okay one, the rest were terrible but he was jerked around too, dominated AAA.

Grilli...Zero good major league starts and about 2 adaquate ones, rest we're terrible and he sucked just as bad in AAA.

Grilli hasn't proven s*** over Diaz, IMO.

Grilli had a lower era as a starter. Also while Grilli never had any great starts, atleast half of his starts the sox had a chance to win the game. There is no doubt that Felix's control is much better then Jason's but Grilli's stuff is also much better then Diaz's.

I don't care if his ERA was lower. I'd rather have the guy who had some quality starts. Just because Grilli had the offense pounding away behind him doesn't make the fact that he failed to have one quality start the entire year.

Diaz showed that when not jerked around he could do the job. The fact is that Grilli was the most coddled of any 5th starter last year and he couldn't get it done ONCE!

Like I said i'm sure he's a very nice guy but he's no better then Jim Parque. It's a shame because before his injury he more then likely could of been a decent pitcher.

The thing that's going to hold Diaz back as a major league pitcher is that he only has 2 real good pitches. I'm no Grilli fan, but he'll be 2 years back from major arm surgery, and I've heard his fastball will get up to 96 MPH. He's good insurance to have in case Hernandez gets injured, but he shouldn't be in the pen. He needs innings down at Charlotte.

I agree. It's too soon to just write off Jason Grilli. He was pitching at less than 100% healthy last year, so I can overlook his shakiness. We haven't seen what a healthy Grilli can do.
