CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have acquired RHP RONALD "BEAR" BAY from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for LHP CLIFF BARTOSH.

 

Bay, 21, went 11-9 with a 3.10ERA (168.1IP, 166H, 71R/58ER, 30BB, 130SO) in 28 starts for A Lansing last season. Overall in his first two seasons of pro ball, he is 19-12 with a 3.02ERA (247.2IP, 234H, 98R/83ER, 46BB, 232SO) in 42 games (38GS). In 2003 with Mesa, he was selected to the Arizona League's All-Star Team after leading the league in victories (7) and was selected by Baseball America as the 6th-best prospect in the Arizona League. The 6-2, 160-pound starter is a native of Houston, TX and was selected by the Cubs in the 25th round of the 2002 draft. His great uncle, Larry Ludtke, played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Bay is likely to start the season in A Kinston.

 

Bartosh appeared in 34 games for the Tribe last year going 1-0 with a 4.66ERA (19.1IP, 22H, 10R/ER, 11BB, 25SO). This spring he was 0-1 with a 6.35ERA and 3 saves (5.2IP, 7H, 5R/4ER, 3BB, 3SO) in six appearances for the Tribe.
