my5thbench
Terry Boers today read a statement from Royce Clayton about steroids, about the party being over for users...guys who hit mamoth home runs in the past are now just reaching the warning track & that this year real baseball will be back...he wants to see the players who cheated get caught. I'm not quoting I'm just giving a brief synonsis from memory...hopefully the full quote will hit the sports pages nationwide, finally a player is standing up & exposing the truth I never liked Clayon when he was a Sox...but I admire him for his stance on this bench

All he did was steal playing time from the Valenstache who was much better. Edited April 1, 2005 by Jabroni

I always considered that shortstop combo as the greater of two evils..one who couldnt field and the other who couldnt hit...needless to say we didnt perform well that season :headshake

NUKE_CLEVELAND
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) Did anyone like Royce "The Choice" Clayton when he was on the Sox? All he did was steal playing time from the Valenstache who was much better. Jerry Manuel loved him! Bought him an ice cream cone after every game and dried his tears every time he struck out in a critical situation ( there was a massive run on Kleenex that year ). Between him and Todd Ritchie that was a very forgettable year.
CubsSuck1
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) Did anyone like Royce "The Choice" Clayton when he was on the Sox? All he did was steal playing time from the Valenstache who was much better. Royce was brought in to play defense, because Jose was a PoS with the glove, as was most of the team. IIRC, Clayton wasn't bad of a defender, but people expected him to be better with the bat than jose, which just wasn't reasonable.
Punch and Judy Garland
I loved Royce's glove and understand that many don't like him humanly. However, I reserve Todd Ritchie comps for the Jaime Navarros of the world
kapkomet
Oh hell no. Navarro was always the worst f*** to disgrace a Sox uniform, at least in the modern era.

One of the best trades ever... http://www.baseball-reference.com/n/navarja01.shtml January 12, 2000: Chicago White Sox trade Jaime Navarro and John Snyder to the Milwaukee Brewers for Cal Eldred and Jose Valentin. One of the best trades ever... http://www.baseball-reference.com/n/navarja01.shtml Man, how good does that trade look? Snyder pitched only 1 year with the Brewers, and Navarro was still horrible with them. Meanwhile, Eldred won 10 games for us and Valentin was our SS for 5 years, and was huge for our division winning team in 2000. Props to Schu for that one. Eldred was great in 2000 before he got injured. He is still pitching well for the Cardinals in relief. That trade was one of the biggest ripoffs ever. How can you give props to Schu when he was the dumb f_ck who signed him over Alex and Clemens in the first place.
