MINNEAPOLIS -- After three years of runner-up finishes to the Twins, the White Sox allegedly re-invented themselves in the offseason to emulate Minnesota's fundamental dogma of speed, defense and pitching.

At the Twins' Friday night home opener, bashers Magglio Ordonez, Jose Valentin and Carlos Lee were departed from Chicago. Frank Thomas was injured. And the 40-homer-hitter left in their lineup, Paul Konerko, entered the game an .079 hitter lifetime against starter Kyle Lohse.

But after a 5-1 Twins loss at the soldout Metrodome before 48,764, it was clear the White Sox still dug the long ball and had enough tools around to still hit them.

Konerko and Aaron Rowand connected for sixth-inning homers off Lohse and marred what was to that point an otherwise decent performance.

"So much for Ozzie [Guillen's] speed ball," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of his Chicago counterpart. "They're hitting home runs already on us."

More at linkage above. I love reading both points of view. :lolhitting

the funny thing is, we got 3 runs off homers and the other two off small ball... so its not like it's really "so much for speed ball" like Gardenhire says... I really think this team can do EVERYTHING offensively and that's why it has such great potential.
