Yesterday morning Jim and I are leaving for work and I see an egg by one of the bushes in the front of the house.. "cute" I thought.. this morning while getting ready I look out the front window and there's the momma.. a cute black duck sittin there keeping her baby warm... So I decide to leave her some bread.. I break some up.. walk out the front door.. approach the bush.. lean down to drop the bread.. and to my surprise... there are now 2 eggs.

Questions for anyone that might know..

We have a lake behind our house.. don't they normally lay their eggs near water..? And at the same time..? How long is this process going to take..? Should I expect more than just the 2..? And can I be sure that it's the same duck..? I'm concerned word will spread and ducks from other lakes in the neighborhood will come drop off their eggs... They look just like eggs you buy at Jewel..

Oooooooooooooo

I didn't even read this. Now I know what you were talking about. Brilliant observation by me that she's going to have her babies in your flower garden, huh? :bang

My in-laws had a duck lay eggs in their bushes. I think there were four. They (the momma and ducklings were pretty much there all summer.

LMAO!

I know when the geese laid eggs by work, they were hidden from people and once they hatched, they went to the pond in front of the building.

Oh I hope this happens... the dogs are not going to like sharing the yard..

That'll be fun for all the people that will be around for the wedding. A hissing duck is a great welcome mat!

Laughing with you.

Look at it this way: you can have one more entree for the reception. Chicken, beef and duck!

You better hope the duck doesn't know how to say "bring it on sister"

OMFG....!! I just spit coffee all over my desk!! :lolhitting

Obviously only those that have met sweet, sweet D would know this... but she is a cocky little one and her favorite saying is... "bring it on sister" that she does with this cute little "come here" hand gesture. She's a peach..

Steff's dogs might if she's not watching.

LOL.. they don't usually roam in the front yard so I think the eggs are safe. It's when they hatch that I'm worried.

I saw a fear factor episode once where they had to eat one.. :puke

When we got home about 45 minutes ago there were 2 ducks in the front yard... too dark to see if it was the same one from this morning.. anyone know if other momma's will try to snatch the eggs...?

And if I touch them will the momma not want them anymore like when baby birds hatch...??
