KW moves paying off........

Featured Replies

Because they weren't part of the trade. It is what it is. Those 2 players were FA signings.

Each of those moves gets weighed on its own merit. Did the trade give us the flexibility in payroll to make those signings? Certainly.

But that doesn't mean they had to happen. KW could have made the Lee trade, and AJP and El Duque could have signed with other teams.

But without the Lee trade neither of those moves is possible.

I agree with that. But as I said, neither does it mean that we had to sign AJP and El Duque. KW did not have to sign those players after trading Lee. As a matter of fact, I remember quite a few people getting worried we were pocketing the Lee money. We didn't sign the other 2 immediately following the trade. It looked for a while like we were no longer interested in AJP.

I choose to lump those two signings, along with Iguchi, in with that deal. It's all part of the big picture.

Well, hell, signing Dye and Hermanson were part of the big picture, let's lump them in too.

If you want to give an overall grade, obviously at this point the offseason should be considered a success.
