Weaker Teams = More Wins For The Sox

This is sort of an open-ended question directed for Jugger or any other stat hound.

It seems the White Sox have the tendency to always lose to the weaker opponent. For the past three to four years, we always find a way to get back to the "Sox need to beat the weaker opponent" saga.

Is there a statistic that could defend this claim? Are things really as bad as they seem?

If we ever want to compete with the back-to-back-to-back American League Central Divison defending champions, we need to get these "easy" wins.

Here are the stats against division opponents I considered weak in the past few years.

2000

vs. KC 5-7

vs. DET 9-3

vs. MIN 7-5

2001

vs. KC 14-5

vs. DET 13-6

2002

vs. KC 11-8

vs. DET 12-7

vs. CLE 9-10

2003

vs. DET 11-8

vs. CLE 11-8

2004

vs. DET 8-11

vs. KC 13-6

We usually handle KC pretty well. I would say they're our only weak divisional opponent this year and we look pretty good against the "strong" ones too so far.

Ya, the freakin Tigers always seem to give us problems, so far not this year, hopefully that continues. I mean, how many games did Detroit win in 03, 9?? :D
