CWSGuy406
Link If you don't want to click on the link, the jist of it is that it would be a lottery system based upon the last three years of hockey. If your respective team didn't make the playoffs in any of those years, your team would get three balls. If your team made the playoffs one of the years, your team would get two balls -- and the rest of the teams would get one ball each. I hate that idea. It's bulls*** that a team like the Hawks, who haven't had a good team since the mid-to-early 90's, only have a two percent shot more at getting Crosby than a team like Detroit or Colorado. I swear, if he ends up with a team like Detroit, I'd puke my lungs out. I haven't come up with a real good idea for it, but this certainly shouldn't be used -- IMHO, at least. (Now, excuse me for a quick moment while I dream of Ruutu and Crosby on the same team... )
kapkomet
Since you started a thread about the NHL, let me give you an update about what I know. 35% says a deal will get done by September. 65% says a deal doesn't get done until January 2006. Add to the mix that Bettman and his f***head cronies have been told in no uncertain terms that sponsorhips, BIG sponsorships are off the table if they do not start the season on time. That adds pressure to the owners, in reality.
CWSGuy406
Thanks for the news, kapko, albeit very depressing news. No hockey this past couple of months was a real bummer. Basketball is fine and dandy, but it doesn't touch hockey's playoffs, hell, even regular season (and I'm sure a lot of people disagree, that's fine). It would be awful if the "Lebron James" of hockey isn't gonna get the chance to play. Hell, even Alex Ovechkin. When the NHL does get going -- whenever that is -- they better market the hell out of Crosby and Ovechkin, 'cause there gonna need to in order to rebuild America's fanbase... Replacement players = junk. While I'm still a little sad when I see that it's mid-May and then I think about how great the playoffs would be right now, I have to say that I adjusted pretty well to not having the NHL around this year. I'm a HUGE hockey fan, but like anything else, if it's not around you learn to live without it. NBA fans may learn this lesson next season. Queen Prawn
The only hockey I have been paying attention to the last 6 months are the AHL (Lowell Loch Monsters - just eliminated and the Chicago Wolves) and the ECHL (Florida Everblades - in the finals which start Saturday I believe - GO EVERBLADES!!!! ). SoxFan562004
The NHL needs Crosby in a big market or a huge hockey town. They are going to do something to give NY, Det, etc, a legitimate shot at landing him

And if the NBPA (or whatever) and the owners don't come to an agreement for the NBA, the NHL would have a nice shot to regain some of their audience... southsider2k5
This just in, the agents are f***ing stupid. The NBA and the NFL are the only leagues where there was labor peace, and low and hehold, everything is going well for them. Well now that the agents have taken over, and this could get ugly. They pretty much had the framework of a deal done, and just needed to finish details, now all of that is in the trash, and the NBA is staring at a lockout in 5 weeks. Good luck with that. kapkomet
I cannot reveal my sources but I can tell you that some insider information has told me that the negotiations this week have turned VERY positive - meaning the chances for an on-time start to the 2005-2006 NHL season have risen dramatically. Call it a "breakthrough". It will look pretty bleak for the next couple of weeks, but then by July the sides will probably come together. The total package -- gritty, great hands, great shot. Easily the best player to come out since... (someone help me out here)...

kapkomet
Yea, right. Anyway, as I alluded to, and then a day later hit the newspapers, there has been some progress made in the last few days.
