witesoxfan
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) Crede and Joey B. for Mackowiak. Let's dump our garbage on them. Hell, they let the Flubs do it to them. Why not us? I do think there is a difference though Ramirez was falling out of favor with Pittsburgh very quickly. IIRC, a bad attitude in the clubhouse, poor defense, though he was coming back with a solid year(.280 12 69 .778) after a miserable 2002(.234 18 71 .666), and he was heading into arbitration too. Lofton was an older veteran who was a FA at the end of the season...and then Simon, who they got later, was just coming off of the sausage-gate scandal, and they essentially wanted to get rid of him. While none of them were really hurting the team in any way, losing them would not hurt them much Mackowiak is currently helping the Pirates a lot, and has already hit arbitration, so they would really not be saving much money Wait a month and a half...Mack will probably have cooled off a little, the Pirates will have fallen further, and he could be more tradeable. Not to say I don't like Mackowiak, just that it might take more than garbage to get him at this point. And who knows, perhaps a better trade scenario will present itself later on. DBAHO
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) Thread title needs to be changed to trade idea. Done. Mackowiak would be nice, but with the Pirates current injury woes, it's doubtful they'll move him at the moment. Speaking of LHH hitters, here's one to throw out also from the Pirates. Daryle Ward. Now I know it's probably not likely we'd make a move there this season, but when we are possibly looking at 1B for next season, a guy like Ward or Snow would be a good platoon partner with Ross Gload possibly. Something to consider. FWIW, Ward's splits .267/.329/.533, but have a look at this against righties (which is something we really, really struggle at) .305/.371/.674. beck72
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) They would be much happier with a WIllie for Polanco trade straight up. Though I don't know why we would want to do that. The Phils have a LH hitting 2b man in Chase Utley
beck72
Here's my take on some of the possibilities: *The sox prob. won't mess with their defense, while trying to add some consistent offense [that would mean Willie and Crede wouldn't be traded this year--esp. as they are cheap. Even if Willie went down to AAA, he'd be great insurance in case Iguchi got hurt] *Phil. will probably try to add to their bullpen now. But Polanco might not give the sox that much of a different look. [Though if they are far out come the deadline, a guy like Billy Wagner would look great on the Sox--few other teams leading their divisions are looking for a closer, so the Sox,with KW's willingness to deal, should offer a decent package for a rent a player] *The pirates view Mackowiak as a UTL guy, who has been given chances to play regularly w/o much success. Mackowiak would be a nice versatile pick up [probably the best guy out there for the sox would could give them a power LH bat and play the IF and OF, taking only 1 roster spot where he could take over Timo's and Willie's spots], who could give Crede, Iguchi, Rowand and Dye a day off. But hes' not an everyday player. Crede for him straight up would be a steal for Pitt. Pitt. would probably want some guys who can play this yr. And they'd prob. wait until Mackowiak cools down and they drop further under .500 before they make a deal *The sox will look to add a rock solid lefty for the bullpen--closer to the deadline--with good to great control [Marte is too wild, and Cotts is a little inexperienced] Edited June 1, 2005 by beck72
