Computer promblem

Featured Replies

I am trying to do a system restore, because ever since a program was installed, the computer's been having trouble. And when I click on system restore it says "a required DLL file is not found. SFPDLL was not found."

Often when im on the internet a thing pop's up that says Iexplore has caused an error in WINSTAT11.DLL Iexplore will not close. I did a search for files and found WINSTAT11.DLL and deleted it but after 5 minutes I get the thing again. And when I search for the file I see it, so I don't know why it's not deleting.

Help?

You try a virus scan? Also, I wouldn't have just delelted some file.

I know I regreted that the first second I did it. It was probaly some internal file. Yes I've done plenty scans with Spysweeper.

I looked it up online, and Winstat11.dll is something from Microsoft Excel, so if I just delete Microsoft Office 6.0, promblem solved?

Always use step one: Shut Down the computer, wait sixty seconds then restart.

If that doesn't work, check your recycle bin and reinstall the file or files

A missing Excel file wouldn't cause a general error. It may be a shared resource across other programs.

Spysweep and a virus scan are two different programs.

Not a good idea to delete .dll files unless you know what you're doing. Windows keeps backups of most of those files anyways and restores them so they aren't lost.

Anyways, that one does happen to be a virus so you should probably use Spybot or something to get rid of it.

The computer's been shut down several times since this starting happening 5 or so days ago. I did restore the 5 files which was all winstat11.dll. I will install Norton Anti Virus and do a scan and see if that helps.

I just did a norton anit virus scan and it found 5 virus and it removed them all. 2 were from Madden 2004 which no one has played in a long time, so that was odd. I never even think to do a nortun vircus scan, since I do Spysweeper scans very often.

Thanks for the help

Another tip if this happens again. Boot up into safe mode w/ network support (assuming Windows XP) hit the F8 button during boot up to get to safe mode.

Start Internet Explorer (sorry Firefox users) and go to trendmicro.com and use their free on-line virus scan tool.

THis of course assumes the virus hasn't knocked out your web capabilities.

Right now I am yanking a hard drive out of a machine and setting it to slave so I can scan it on a good system.

I still have this promblem, with Winstat11.dll saying "Iexplore has caused an error in Winstat11.dll and is shutting down". I seached online and found a site you can download .dll files, for damaged ones. But only found Winsta.dll? I don't understand. I did another norton scan and nor virus were found.

Do a System Repair. You can access it if you put in your XP boot disc and boot from the CD. That'll fix it.

I have ME I guess it doesn't matter though. I'm going to try that now.

I just did a system restore, in the winter I had promblems with my graphics, as the colors were messed up. I had NVida installed (some graphic thing), that im sure you've heard of, now it seems as if the color is how it was in the winter before I had NVida installed. Because in Properties-Display only 16 colors is the option listed and nothing else

DLL's can be tricky. Abnormal shutdowns or closures can corrupt their states of execution. They not only can make use of shared & private memory which sometimes is restored upon a failure like that but also the Windows registry for state data.

The best thing to do is to re-install the application that reports the error.

In this case Iexplore. The act of doing so basically cleans out all the traces of bad data for the DLL & then re-initializes that data. It usually takes care of the problem.

I've got ME too. You really have to be constantly on the lookout for problems, or they can really snowball on ya.

Yes it does. We had ME on our last computer and I swore I was gonna kick Bill Gate's ass for letting that POS OS out the door. We have XP on this 'puter and so far so good.

You might need to reload the video drivers. Do you have the orignal Nvidia disk?

Pop it in and reinstall....

With regard to the winstat11 problem...

I'm pretty sure this is spyware and not the winstat add in for excel.

Try this program to remove

Download Ad-Aware

Open AdAware from Start | Programs | Lavasoft | AdAware.

Select ,

After installation, run the program and click the start button. Then click the next button. This lets ad-aware scan your computer.

After ad-aware is done running, hit the next button. Then right click the area with the listed spy ware objects.Choose the "Select all objects" option.

At this point all the boxes next to the items should be checked. Then hit the next button.

It will ask if you want to delete the selected objects. Hit the Okay button.

Most if not all of the spyware should have been deleted from your hard drive.

QP, looking at your ava, when did Nascar add hills? Are they *still* trying to make it a sport :D

Yes it is spyware. Do what CC says or just upgrade to XP now.
