June 16, 200520 yr From minorleagueball.com, he'll probably do our other draftees in the next few days; 53---Chicago White Sox: Wes Whisler, LHP, UCLA 7.15 ERA, 29/13 K/BB ratio, 39 hits allowed in 34 innings for the Winston-Salem Warthogs in the Carolina League. Whisler was considered somewhat raw for a college pitcher, and this certainly shows up in the numbers this year: so-so command, excess hittability, etc. Still trying to transition from thrower to pitcher. 59---Chicago White Sox: Donny Lucy, C, Stanford 5-for-22 (.227) for the Kannapolis Intimidators of the Sally League. The sample size is too small to mean anything, although doubts about his bat do exist.
June 16, 200520 yr He fails to mention that Whisler is coming off an injury and had success for the Warthogs last year.
June 16, 200520 yr Same with Lucy. I'd of liked to see more info from him aside from sheerly looking at stats.
June 16, 200520 yr QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Same with Lucy. I'd of liked to see more info from him aside from sheerly looking at stats. That's in depth analysis for ya.
June 16, 200520 yr I understand Whisler was a college first basemen and also pitched a bit... Is there a shot we may see him do both in his road threw the minors because of the lack of depth the Sox have at 1B prospects in the Minors?
June 16, 200520 yr QUOTE(mwolfson @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) I understand Whisler was a college first basemen and also pitched a bit... Is there a shot we may see him do both in his road threw the minors because of the lack of depth the Sox have at 1B prospects in the Minors? He DH'd on occasion last year during his time with Kannapolis. When he got promoted to Winston-Salem the Sox said it's now pitching only. However, if pitching busts don't be surprised if they convert him to a hitter.
June 16, 200520 yr QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) He DH'd on occasion last year during his time with Kannapolis. When he got promoted to Winston-Salem the Sox said it's now pitching only. However, if pitching busts don't be surprised if they convert him to a hitter. I remember talking to someone last year (it may of been Kirk Champion who said this) and they said they were going to let him fart around with hitting to keep him comfortable but after his rookie year it would be all about pitching. He's still very raw. I was never much of a fan of his selection, but he can throw about 5 different pitches. Problem is he isn't consistent with any of them at this point. He does have a low mileage arm.
June 17, 200520 yr Author Today's blurb on Liotta; 69---Chicago White Sox: Ray Liotta, LHP, Gulf Coast Community College 4-3, 2.75 in 13 starts for Kannapolis in the Sally League, with a 68/19 K/BB in 79 innings. Fastball/curveball pitcher, solid stuff with good command, one of the better LHP prospects in the low minors.
June 17, 200520 yr Promote Ray and Gio, they seem to deserve it. Unless the Sox don't want to rush them up to quickly.

June 19, 200520 yr Author Today's writeup on Tyler and Gio; 34---Chicago White Sox: Tyler Lumsden, LHP, Clemson Elbow surgery. Was expected to miss the season, but rehab is going well according to reader report and he may be back sooner. 38---Chicago White Sox: Gio Gonzalez, LHP, Monsignor Pace HS, Miami 5-3, 1.87 in 10 starts for Kannapolis in the Sally League, earning a promotion to Winston-Salem in the Carolina League, where he fanned 4 but allowed 5 hits and 2 runs in a 3.2 inning start. Rapid progress here, he is quickly emerging as one of the best LHP prospects in the game.
