Scott Hatteberg

According to the Contra Costa Times, the A's are trying to trade Scott Hatteberg.

Makes sense, with how little Hatteberg has been playing since Dan Johnson was called up from Triple-A. ''I'm not going to speculate on that,'' Hatteberg said. ''I know it could happen. I'll tackle that when the time comes.'' Jun. 17 - 8:58 am et

Would be a GREAT 1B back up that we need. He is heads and shoulders better than Gload. Also would give tons more depth. Not sure what Oakland would want for him now. Can't be a lot!

It's not a matter of being better than Ross Gload, it's a matter of Gload possibly being done for the season. Hatteberg would undoubtedly be a grade-a backup for PK, able to spell him for a game or two a week. However, if it means trading anything of real value--prospects or otherwise--pass on that.

I still get the feeling Kenny is uncomfortable dealing with Beane.

off topic but how do you get those cool signatures?

I'm with you on this one. I wouldn't give up anything more than an average AA minor leaguer or two.

Totally agree that Hatteberg would be a great fit. Not extremely versatile but he'd be a good bat off the bench and obviously could spell Konerko. He can hit and he's got a good eye at the plate.

Hatteburg would be an interesting pick up: he could backup 1b and be the Sox 3rd Catcher, as he's played 369 games there and 417 at 1B; hits well vs RHP [.294/.353/.392]; and has hit well vs Minn. in his career [.349/.426/.494 in 83 ab's]

With his $2.45 mill. salary, age [35] and him probably getting to be a platoon player now--hitting only .208/.317/.302 vs LHP], the A's probably wouldn't ask or get much for him.

Somehow, I don't think the sox will be able to count on Gload coming back anytime soon. They need someone for 1b.

He's what the Sox need. The good eye at the plate especially, coming off the bench and seeing good pitches and giving himself a chance to get on or move the runners over. I like Hatteberg but I think he may make 3-4 mil. which I think is too much for him. Not sure on that but, without money figured in I wouldn't mind him in Silver and Black.

Even if we don't get him this season by trade i am pretty sure the sox will be looking and him alot in the off-season (free agent).

Yeah, I'd like to have him on our 25 man roster as well. I wouldn't trade anyone off our 25 for him except Timo but the A's wouldn't take him.

Maybe a second tier prospect or two would get him, and he can take Timo's spot on the roster. The only problem would be what to do with Gload when he's healthy.
