July 2, 200520 yr Link The NHL and NHLPA took Canada Day off but will resume labour talks Monday in New York with the end finally in sight. The two sides wrapped up late Thursday night after meeting every day this week. With lawyers on both sides drafting the agreement as talks progress, it's a matter of days before a tentative deal is announced. The deal then needs approval by the players and the NHL board of governors If they get it done within the next half a month, oh man, will I be happy. I've said just about everything I've wanted to say about hockey over the last couple of months, so no need to post it again. But hopefully some sort of weighted draft will be put in place, that's really one of the funnest days of the summer. Git 'er done! Please!

July 2, 200520 yr I hope this deal doesn't get done, since the hockey lockout, my alma mater went to the Final Four and my baseball team has the best record in the majors. These two facts have undoubtedly been caused by the lack of hockey, and bringing hockey back will cause my baseball team to tank and my alma mater to fall back to mediocrity!
July 3, 200520 yr Certainly good news Keith. I'm really interested to see what they do with this draft. If they do some sort of weighted draft based on the past few years, the Hawks will have a good chance at Crosby. If they do some lame ass even (or almost even) lottery or something, i won't like it one bit. This will be an intense few months before the season starts, that's for sure. Kap, what's the latest?

The big story here is the teams will be able to buy out bad contracts! It means teams like the Wings,Rangers,Stars and Flyers will start from scratch.

You said it all for me. Ruutu was the last big name pick that would demand big $. The Hawks have a history of trying to underpay players,not just Draft picks. This would be the worst place for Crosby to go. Rangers,Leafs,Philly. You can blame it on a GM,or negotiation.But the truth is the owners are cheap,and have run this team into the ground! :headshake
July 4, 200520 yr Well, I know that an affiliation I am involved with has gotten cash money for a hockey team to train in September, right before camps are to open. I can't see any more of a clear sign then that - that would say they are damn near done with this. There's a HINT of some stupid ass players that are leading the union to NOT ratify the CBA because Goodenow has instructed them not to so he can still "win". I personally don't put a lot of stock in that rumour, but it's interesting. The players are PISSED beyond belief that they are having to play under a cap system after Goodendick said they would "NEVER" have to. However, most of the players after sitting out a year are bankrupt or nearly so, and that means that they are going to take what they can get at this point I think. He just isnt as good and I feel he did not deserve that much money for being unproven in North America.
