Opera's version 8.50 has just released as freeware marking a huge change for the web browser/internet suite. I know alot of you are hooked on Firefox but I recommend giving Opera a try. It's probably a bit more polished a product because of its longer more rigorous development and testing history. Alot of web sites aren't built to work on Opera, but Opera is highly compliant with rising web standards and is probably in the direction of where Firefox and IE are headed.

Wow just downloaded it. I had always heard quite a bit about it and its really nice. I'll have to test it out and see if I like it more than Mozilla.

Has some other cool builtin features like email and IRC chat. Alot of stuff you can download for Firefox is already part of Opera. I haven't checked it yet but supposedly Opera is pretty good on memory usage too.

Yeah I'm a bit skeptical on that too. I do like the feel of the builtin RSS reader better than Sage for Firefox. So far, it feels just like another Firefox otherwise.

If you've ever seen one of these icons on a web site:

 

Click it while you're in Opera and it will subscribe you to the news feed from that site. I use a program called SharpReader right now, basically it takes all the news feeds from the 50 or so sites I have subscribed there and gives me an easy way to browse all the headlines and read the stories that I'm interested in. I don't have to browse to each website to view all their stories but just go to my RSS reader.

Yeah..I've had Opera already on my system as my backup browser to Firefox if something went wrong and it is a great browser...although my Roboform doesn't work on it which keeps all my passwords and crap which sucks.

 

Also, is there a way to copy all my bookmarks that are in Firefox to Opera's Bookmarks?

Go to the Firefox Bookmark manager and do a File->Export on your bookmarks. Then in Opera you can just import them from the bookmarks.html file.

Will that remove all my bookmarks from Firefox? Or will it just make a copy of the bookmarks while also keeping all my bookmarks on firefox too.

It just makes a copy.

 

So far there are some things I like better about Opera and some I don't. I do like that there's a ton more preferences to configure and change the look of my browser.
