Cleveland Brown “Franchise” History

Featured Replies

I am watching the Bears game today and growing increasingly annoyed when announcers say something to the effect of “this Cleveland Borwns franchise has a storied history” or “this team has 15 Hall of Famers”. No, actually they don’t have either. The Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore and became the Ravans and Cleveland was granted an expansion franchise starting in the 1999 season. This is not an “old” franchise, it’s only existed since 1999. I could understand if the team folded and suspended opperations for a few years then came back. But the whole franchise actually MOVED, players and all.

I understand that the NFL is what decided to make this odd situation, but can it please stop? The Browns the Bears played in 1992 are now the Ravens. END OF STORY!!!!

agreed 100%

tho ill also say this : the nfl announcers are SO much better then the ESPN baseball announcers we had in the whitesox/redsox games, its amazing how well i get into a game when its good announced. :)

Actually if I remember right, when the Ravens moved, they still had the Cleveland Browns history, but when the browns got a new expansion team, the city of Cleveland wanted the Browns history back and got it back. The players aren't the same but they have all of the history of the old Cleveland Browns.

Sounds right, but I'm not sure. I thoguht it was promised by the NFL that if the team moved the city could keep the name and history and were promised an expassion team in the future. Either way, it still doesnt change my point. it's sooooooooooooo stupid!
