As for the rest of the team, it was so so... the offense is definitely up in the NHL (hawks had 35 shots or so).

I think Bulin is the type of goalie who relies on defensive familiarity and rhytmn. I dont think he has gotten in his groove quite yet, and isnt sure how the defense reacts in situations. Give him some time, he will improve.

I agree he will improve, but defensive familiarty? You either see and stop the puck or you dont. Theres no familiarity, unless of course he became unfamiliar with a puck during the lockout.

Im not sure if you played much hockey, but there are certain differences between the way that teams play defense. Bulin was familiar with the way that his old team moved to the puck, covered for each other, etc. He may not be used to the behavior of this new scheme, or the players tendencies either. This may be why he is giving up so many rebounds in bad spots in the crease.

This guy is the real deal. I think he was a first round draft pick in '01 but he got injured and the surgery didnt go well, atleast that's what Jesse Rogers was saying. And we will be seeing alot more of him, probably on the 1st line right now:

Daze missed his second game this season on Sunday after tweaking his back in the warmup before Friday's game against the San Jose Sharks. Daze has had surgery to repair herniated discs in his back three times in five years.

 

Morgan was acquired by the Blackhawks last year from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Ville Nieminen. He has played in 33 NHL games and has one goal while adding four assists.

 

Morgan was sent to Norfolk before the start of the season, where he appeared in two games with the Admirals and had one assist.

It seems to me like he just hasnt become familiar with our players, or the team yet. Im sure he will heat up eventually. Goalies are weird folk.

I guess I'm nitpicking a bit, but MOST teams play odd man breaks exactly the same, cover the pass and force the carrier to a bad angled shot. Defensemen know that rebounds go into the corners etc. Theres not a whole lot goin on there.

You always take away the pass while forcing the worst shot possible from the puck carrier.

 

Plus, the familiarity argument doesn't really hold up based on the goals i've seen him give up thus far.

how much does your goalie want you to play the pass is the issue. you can't always play the pass and force the worst angled shot possible, the offense won't just skate in a straight line. how much room do you give the carrier to shoot?

It's just a general rule. Every single goalie would rather take the shooter in an isolated situation and not have to worry about stopping a one time shot off of a pass.

Every goalie Ive ever heard talk about it said that they'd rather the D-Man play the pass and not mess with the puck carrier in a 2 on 1. A lot of times what happens is that if the D-Man goes for the puck carrier he ends up either screening the shot or a pass gets through to the wide open other guy and it ends up in the net.
