I was just thinking

I seem to remember that book making the white sox look like fools. That Beane and friends raped the White Sox by getting Bradford, Durham, etc., for a steaming pile of snot.

But the players we got in return have become incredibly valuable. Cotts has been a lefty stud out of the pen, and Olivo, while he gave us some decent seasons, was part of the group that brought Freddy Garcia.

Seems to me that these trades worked out pretty good, seeing as Bradford and Durham are no longer in Oakland, and the A's never made it this far.

Now, that Todd Ritchie trade, that's a different story.

I was thinking last night about how long you could track the paths of some of these players back to the Sox, and how amazing of a job was done assembling this team.

Konerko...traded for Mike Cameron.

Uribe...Aaron Miles.

Joe Crede...draft.

Aaron Rowand...ditto.

Pods...Carlos Lee trade

Jon Garland...Matt Karchner

Jose Contreras...Via Esteban Loaiza, who was signed as a FA himself

Cotts...via Keith Foulke, who came via the surrender deal

Mark Buehrle...whopping 38th round draft pick

Freddy...Reed, Olivo, and Morse.

Free Agents:

AJ

Gooch

Hermy

Jenks

Dye

I think it says a lot about this organization that our highest paid free agent signee is Jermaine Dye.

My argument, especially to Yankee and Red Sox fans, has been that this whole team is made up of either guys nobody else wanted or guys we acquired via trade or the draft.

Who wanted to sign Dye? The Sox and the D-Backs. Who wanted A.J.? Nobody. Who wanted Gooch? A lot of teams looked at him, including Boston, but wouldn't pull the trigger. Nobody was beating down the door trying to get at Cliff Politte or Dustin Hermanson. Bobby Jenks was waived by the Angels.

But none of this matters now. They're all OUR guys now.

Jenks was acquired via the waiver wire, not FA.

well, Beane did get Nick Swisher, whilst we got Royce Ring....
