How about a nice old fashioned reel mower or machete. Or plant your yard in native grasses and watch your neighbors' reactions. Or there's always this: Conserve gasoline!

I've used 2 gallons of gas in a year of mowing. And wow, that grass looks remarkably what my grass looks like now. Brown and dead.
