ADVERTISEMENT The university said Tuesday night that it reported the matter to the NCAA in June after receiving an anonymous tip. It said the NCAA agreed to restore Jackson's eligibility after he sits out the suspension. The university said benefits to Jackson and his family included transportation, meals and lodging, gifts and a personal loan between 2002 and this year. Jackson will be required to repay the full value of the benefits. He'll be eligible to play when the Jayhawks meet Northern Colorado on Dec. 22. Jackson, a 6-foot-8 sophomore, averaged two points last season.
November 16, 200520 yr Kansas ran a dirty program even under Roy Williams, so this isn't surprising at all...if a program is dirty with Roy, it will be with anybody. However I'm not going to blame Self.....at that program, there is cheating going on that the coach doesn't even know about and probably could do little to prevent. Kansas is just lucky they are Kansas, or they'd have big issues. yeah, you can't blame self. this sounds similar to what happened with marcus mason and illinois football. a rogue booster decides to go and hand-out some cash on his own. not much a head coach can do about that.

The only difference I can see between the Mason situation and Jackson is that Mason was listed as a major infranction against the University of Illinois. KU is not penalized at all for this. (Not saying they should have as the university had no knowledge of this, just some inconsistency in punishmet). I guess the NCAA has always had their favorite schools and Illinois has never been at the top of that list.

No doubt. I can't believe how quickly this resolved itself. KU is a big money program and the NCAA just further exposes its hypocrisy in dealing with different schools. I would love to be at the Illinois appeal of the Mason decision when the two situations are compared and the NCAA describes why the discrepancy in punishment.

I don't think Roy ran it, which is why I think Kansas basketball is out of control. The coaches don't run the program (other than who is recruited and coaching), the cheating and lying boosters do.
November 16, 200520 yr I know KU had a huge booster who kept getting caught trying to give money to players. He was basically told you are not allowed anywhere near our program.

He was basically told you are not allowed anywhere near our program. i think this is a part of the culture for really high profile college athletic programs. people want so bad to be a part of the "show" that they are willing to do just about anything to feel like they are in the program. for the average guy, that's just a pipe dream. for a guy with a big bankroll it's really not. the problem is, these people are like roaches. you snuff one out and two more spring up. if i were a college coach at a major program i think i'd spend a lot more time worrying about what the adults were doing than what the kids were.

Thats a good point, even "superfans" without alot of money can ruin a program, guys are springing up over the internet with superfan sites and calling their scrhools recruits bothering them all the time and asking ridiculous questions, ruining their schools chances. It gets ridiculous.

It gets ridiculous. true. the internet has created a direct line between recruits and fans in some instances, and i'm not certain that's really a good thing. on one board i post on a football recruit has posted regularly. even after he committed, he decided to take other visits (as i would do as well if i were in his shoes, a free trip to a tennessee football game, c'mon!). anyhow, the reaction from fans has ranged from simple anxiety to anger, all while the kid is still showing up and almost feeling as if he has to reassure fans. it's bizarre. there was a good story on this a few months back in espnmagazine that centered around myron rolle. very good story.
