Depends...if you're planning on inviting them over for Thanksgiving Day or Christmas day they probably have less-extended family parties to attend. But if you want to have them over the weekend before christmas or something then you can probably go pretty far down the family tree...obviously, every family situation is different. As far as I'm concerned....the more relatives the worse the event That just holds true when it comes to my moms side of the family though I don't think there is ever anything wrong with inviting family or friends(even if they are very distant). Worse they can do is say no, and I think they always feel welcome for the invite.

LOL I have a sticky situation with Jim's sisters daughter... every year we all spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together.. my family and his family (immediate and all the way down to the kids cousins). It's just the way it's always been.. now Jim and I are going to visit my gram, aunts & uncles, and cousins in Florida and Beth (Jim's sisters daughter) is hosting Thanksgiving.. she has yet to invite my folks.. who live a block from her. I'm this/close to asking her what the hell is up. I think it's rude especially since my folks do a lot for her when she is late from work (a lot) like getting her kids from the bus stop and walking her dog, etc.. Jim says go ahead and ask her.. I'm just trying to find the right way to ask her about it.. she's one we have to handle with "kid gloves" often. I was kinda asking about how far the invite extends in case we're weird for having holiday's with all that family.. No need to respond.. I know we're weird. LOL.

Maybe just ask innocently whether your folks should bring anything. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but it does sound odd that they wouldn't just invite them.
November 21, 200520 yr If it's the only time all year they would be invited to dinner, no expectation should be implied. If they are regular visitors, I'd feel compelled. If they have nothing nice to say about anyone, they can sit next to me.
