SnB
Sometimes, when my computer is on at night and there is basically nothing running on it, maybe an idle AIM, but that would be all. Well anyway, every so often (maybe 10-15 minutes) the fans in the computer will kick into high gear and get really loud, which seems like for no apparent reason. Any ideas? Palehosefan
Not sure, but mine is pretty much brand new and does the same thing. I wouldn't worry about it. I used to worry it was a virus causing havoc, but its completely clean, so it must be just keeping itself as cool as possible.

3E8
It could be a virus/spyware using all your resources and pushing the cpu so hard that the fan kicks into overdrive to cool things down.

Wise Master Buehrle
If you have anti virus software than that is certainly whats causing it. If your performance stays regular, I wouldn't worry about it. Just be persistent in your virus/spyware/adware scans.
