Jeff DaVanon available

Featured Replies

Angels released outfielder Jeff DaVanon.

DaVanon went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week. He'll get picked up by a team looking for a reserve outfielder.

Fourth outfielder?

Didn't you or someone else post this a while back? Its somewhere I know that.

It might be. The Angels had only designated DaVanon for assignment at the time. They still had 10 days to trade him but he went unclaimed so they just released him instead.

Doesn't Rob Mackowiak fill that role?

He may be playing quite a bit at third base if Crede's back forces him to miss time. Either way, DaVanon could be a fifth outfielder then. He can also play every outfield position. He would probably be a better option than Borchard or Timo.

I posted a while back that I thought he would be a good 4th outfielder if the Angels released him. Give him a one year deal, can't hurt. Better than Timo, Willie, Borch and Willie and Timo are gonna be non-tendered anyways.

Pods, Dye, Anderson/Owens, Mackowiak, Ozuna

All 5 can play outfield, right? You could even include Willie in that list, but I think he won't be around.

I like DaVanon, but I don't think we need him. Then again, if its a small deal, I have no problems with it.

You are right, but I'd rather have DaVanon than Ozuna in the outfield. And for that matter, probably Mackowiak in CF. He is a scrappy player that would fit in perfectly with the Sox. That doesn't mean we need him, but if they aren't sold on Owens, yet...then he would be a great pickup.
