Aside from Murph, I don't mind the Score personalities.

 

Damn, how come everybody either hates or dislikes Murph?

 

That dude kicks ass, IMO. But I've been listening to the Score on a regular basis for over a decade now, so perhaps I have just grown to love him. You can't just jump right in and like a guy like Murph off the bat, I suppose. I know that you're a Score head, so you've probably listened to Murph plenty of times. Is it his voice, his love for the Cubs, etc? All he ever does is criticize Andy McFAIL and Jim Hendry. He's definitely not a homer.

That dude kicks ass, IMO.  But I've been listening to the Score on a regular basis for over a decade now, so perhaps I have just grown to love him.  You can't just jump right in and like a guy like Murph off the bat, I suppose.  I know that you're a Score head, so you've probably listened to Murph plenty of times.  Is it his voice, his love for the Cubs, etc?  All he ever does is criticize Andy McFAIL and Jim Hendry.  He's definitely not a homer.

 

Murph has limited knowledge outside of baseball. Although I haven't listened to his show much since its move to afternoons, I heard all I needed to from a radio spot plugging his program. IIRC, it followed : "All we hear is the Bears' offense is terrible, but in the last (however) many games, the Bears have held the opposition to even fewer points. Is this illogical?" I sat listening to this on the train thinking, of course it is, you moron. Our defense, up until this afternoon, was the best in the league. Found it rather odd the Score would select a snippet from Murph's show which exposes his lack of depth concerning football.

 

Aside from his noted Cub homerism, I question his objectivity. He devoted five minutes to discussing how he would show no emotional attachment (negative or positive) towards the Sox during their impending playoff run. Right away, Sox fans listening knew where not to turn to for insight into a playoff game. It's as if he needes to maintain Cub credibitlity among his targeted audience of 35-50 year old men residing on the North side.

 

In the final week of this seaon, Murph continued to discuss the Cubs. Noted, in my mind, because in the final week of 04' Cub collapse Murph said--on air--he would no longer discuss the White Sox. Odd how circumstances change when the scenarios are flipped.

 

Another problem is his relationship with Jim Hendry. It's close, as I can figure. Nothing is ever his fault. It's, as you referenced, Andy Mc F-A-I-L's fault Hendry can't create trades without attempting to fleece the other team. I can go on for another few paragraphs. I'll end this by adding his goofy sound effects don't help.

Baseball is clearly his area of expertise, as you stated. The baseball-related interviews on his show are almost always outstanding. Also, for me, comedy is the most important aspect when it comes to sports radio, and Murph cracks me up constantly.

If you are stuck listening to Murph, listen how he will steer the conversation to the scrubs whenever someone is discussing anything positive about the Sox. If it is negative, he lets it go. A caller pointed that out and sure enough it was true. It has gotten better since the Score became the new home for Sox games. It used to be obvious. I think Farmer even called him out on it on the air. Maybe someone can remember what Farmer said.

 

I forgot about Murph. I'd rather listen to North than Murph and North annoys the hell out of me. Actually, I've started to listen to podcasts more and get all of my sports news and rumors right here. If by chance anyone on the score has anything remotely interesting about the Sox, someone will report it here. By the way, thanks everyone for making this site entertaining and informative.

It's his voice, his obsession with all things Cubs, and the fact that he says he will put aside time to talk about the Sox but never does. He just always ends up talking about the Cubs.

He's actually a Cardinals fan. 

That is correct. I interned at the station back in the summer of 2004. He wore a Cards hat almost everyday.

With that being said, he's a really great guy. I thnink he'll do great. He'll conect with a young croud.

the sox don't have a young crowd. their fans are all in their 90's and attend world series games with signs saying they've waited almost a century for this
