Is Buehrle hurt?

Featured Replies

I apologize if this has been posted, but Phil Rogers made mention of Mark today in his Sunday baseball column. He said Buehrle's arm was sore after the relief apearance in the World Series and that he may not have been able to start Game 6.

Has anyone else heard this, other then by reading Phil Rogers?

If it's true and there is some concern it makes more and more sense that the Sox trade for Vazquez and that Buerhle dropped out of the WBC.

I hope Phil is wrong on this one.

I doubt it, Buerhle would have sucked it up to pitch in game 6. He dropped out of the WBC because he felt he needed the rest after the long season and wants to be the Sox's Ace.

He was on the Score White Sox Weekly last week and gave no hint of a problem. Even if his arm was tired in the Series, I doubt that he was "injured" per se.

A sore arm is normal. Pain is not. This was back in October. I would not give it a second's thought.

If I remember correctly from the sports analysts talk when Mark came into relieve the mention was about a starter that only a game or two ago had pitched and now he was relieving. He may have been tired and sore, but he was not injured.

I'm sure he was sore. He just pitched in back to back games. Sore doesn't equate to hurt when it comes to pitchers. They normally are quite sore after a start.

Its if that soreness prolongs where you have issues.

It's a smart decision by Mark to not do the World Championship in my opinion. Get ready for Spring Training and this upcoming year is the way to go.

Those of you that go to Soxfest need to get answers to this question.

Buehrle isn't going to be at Soxfest, at least according to the current list.

Coop will be there. Somebody can ask him.

I remember hearing about the sore arm last fall.

Buehrle has thrown lots of innings over the last five years. He's not a huge guy. I have concerns about normal wear and tear.

Maybe that is why we have six starters.

Back in the fall when this first came up, Buehrle said his sore arm was mainly due to actually having too much rest during the playoffs, not too much work. In his words, if I remember correctly, the extra time off let things heal up a bit too much. Kinda like when you take 2 weeks off and then go back to the gym for the first time.

Hermanson made a similar comment regarding his herniated discs. He said that he had adjusted to the pain they caused and that if he woke up one day and the pain was magically gone that he probably wouldn't pitch as well since he wouldn't be used to that sort of pain-free sensation.

If I'm worried about anybody on the pitching staff, it's Hermanson and his back. His return could be key to our success. Otherwise, we might need to convert a starter into a reliever.
