Nick Lemon Retires

Nick Lemon Retires

FutureSox.com

Nick Lemon, 24, was placed on the voluntarily retired list at the end of spring training. An 8th round pick out of BYU in 2004, Lemon had made great strides in 2005 with Great Falls and appeared to have as much upside as any reliever in our system.

Lemon was blessed with an upper 90's fastball (one of the best in the 04 draft class) but entered the Sox system with absolutely no idea how to throw strikes. Lemon walked 31 while throwing 13 wild pitches in 24 innings for Bristol in 04.

Lemon started off the 05 season in similar fashion, but an adjustment was made and he found some command. Lemon finished 05 with a 2.63 ERA while striking out 46 batters in 41 innings of work (walking just 18).

FS Take:

This move definately comes as a surprise and FutureSox will try to dig up some information on why he retired. If I had to take a stab in the dark, I'd assume he injured his arm sometime during spring training and decided that he would be best suited calling it quits as opposed to rehabbing it. That is just pure speculation on my part though.

ah f***. maybe it had something to do with his religious obligations.

Good call, that could very well be it.

Not likely guys. Lemon fulfilled his Mormon mission obligations during his college career. This is more than likely along the lines of what Jason suggested in his update, an injury-related retirement.

Wow... :o

Cheat is going to be crushed.
