McCarthy Quick to Adjust

One of the arts of pitching is deception. Pitchers mix up their different pitches to try to fool batters. White Sox fans know that Bobby Jenks has the best fastball in the system, and Mark Buehrle's arsenal is surpassed by few in all of baseball. But when it comes to the best White Sox curveball, who knew it was owned by a failed third baseman/mediocre left fielder? MORE

Good stuff Mike. I was pleasantly surprised by McCarthy's quick adjustment to the pen. The big thing I hope is that he'll be able to still throw the ocassional 3 or 4 inning relief stint that will keep his stamina up.

How do you write up a piece on BMac and talk only about his curve? I still think his change is his nastiest pitch.

Except for when it's on an 0-2 count following two previous changes with runners on 1st and 2nd in a tied game in the 11th inning...

At least the Seattle announcers thought those were 3 straight curve balls. And anywho, if it was the change, why the Heck did AJ call for a change 3 pitches in a row? It's good when it's, you know, a change-up.

Actually I wasn't talking about Brandon, I was referring to Kenny Williams at the end of the first paragraph. I never got into the stuff of Brandon, as I wanted to leave that to the experts. I focused mainly on the adjustment from starting to relieving, and imparticular some of the possible problems Bmac could have had going to the pen.
