June 4, 200322 yr we all new the fix was in somehow and it came to light now maybe he didnt use a corked bat all the time especially with the helping wind at wrigley but i bet over the course of a year he used at least 20-30% of the time
June 4, 200322 yr Cheating and getting away with it would only make him want to cheat more. I bet he did it very infrequently at first and gradually increased his usage of corked bats until finally he got careless and we have batgate II.
June 4, 200322 yr I'm betting it was situational. In this at bat he was pretty certain to get a pitch to hit. No reason to use the "hot" bat with no outs and no body on. I'll bet having 3 home runs less than Valentin at this point in the season had him looking for some help. What also is interesting is according to the umpire the cork seemed to be injected not drilled and filled. Seems as if Sammy couldn't stop shooting up.
