Sox Pitchers' Hitting

Featured Replies

I put these stats out here last fall prior to the WS, to see how Sox pitchers have fared in hitting. Here it is, for your interleague pleasure (AVG, OBP, OPS)...

Buerhle: .095/.136/.231 [21 AB]

Contreras: .000/.067/.067 [14 AB]

Vazquez: .214/.244/.498 [426 AB]

Garcia: .194/.194/.416 [36 AB]

Garland: .167/.167/.398 [12 AB]

Cotts: 1.000/1.000/3.000 [1 AB, it was a double]

McCarthy: .000/.000/.000 [2 AB, both K's]

Nelson: .000/.000/.000 [2 AB]

Jenks, Riske, Thornton, Montero have never hit.

3 of our 5 SP's have higher averages (career) than Anderson does this year.

Garland also had that RBI single last year in SD so we know they aren't completely useless with runners in scoring position.

Wow, Vasquez has posted a .650 career OPS...that's better than Timo.

Where did you get .650? Its .498, unless I wrote it down wrong.

Ah, misread. Darn. I was pumped about watching him hit too! :)

I want to see Jenks hit.

But then again I don't.

If the game is out of hand and he is just getting in innings? Sure, I'd go for that.

Watching Contreas hit is really funny. He really has no idea whats going. Bmac looks like one of those cardboard stand ups

I think Buerhle really likes to bat, but he is not very good.

Garland and Cotts actually look natural up there and if they got more plate apperances they would probably be ok.

CLiff Politte though is the man. Example last year. He is also a world class base runner.

When you type out splits you usually go ba/obp/slg/ops

I hear we're activatiing Cliff just to hit.

Who was it that Buehrle took deep the other day? Raines?

I recall that game vs the Rockies very well. Clutch hitting by a reliever. Good times.

I labeled my columns, I figured that would suffice. I can't really predict what everyone expects.

Besides... slugging pct for a pitcher didn't seem worth even writing down...

I'm just saying, that's where you confused him.

That's why I have a hard time knocking him on stuff. Similar to Hermie, he goes balls out to help the team win.

OK. In the future, I'll use the Kalapse method for displaying offensive numbers, if that is what most people expect. Since I'm not one to post stats very often, it won't come up much anyway.

What wrong with the good ole' "Avg: ____ OBP: _____ HR _____ RBI _____." ?

Because he's using splits and HRs and RBIs aren't going to be all that useful when talking about American League pitchers (with the exception of Vazquez).

Very true.

Yeah, I wondered if any of them had ever even hit any. Looks like just Vazquez.

Too bad we're not seeing Bronson Arroyo.

Brian Anderson could take some batting advice from him!
