I bet that Graffy's gonna be seeing lots of playing time at 2B now, which I don't have any problem with, since he's playing great of late. He needs more playing time, because he could be one of our key contributers this season. Jiminez is OK offensively; however, his defense could improve (if only he could go back for that shallow OF fly like Durham could, I might like him more.).

i have a huge problem with graff covering 2nd more often........we have miles rotting away in trip a and his switch hitting can be of a ton of use here.......would much rather see him up than graff tryin to cover..........mho.....

All I know is I was pissed not to see him in the lineup on Friday. I think Jimenez is one of the keys to this club winning. HE's not the only one, cause if Frank, Konerko, Crede and Maggs can get rolling, then this offense can be pretty damn good and can really carry this team if the pitching falters.

how so?????? hes lazy, his fielding sucks and his bat has cooled way off......i dont think hes a key hes more like a hinderance......him and paulie can go hold hands on someone elses team and quit wasting space on ours..........id say take crede with them too but we dont have a third base replacement yet lol.......

When Jimenez was hot at the beginning of the year, we were winning.

Lately, now that he's cooled off a bit, we're not playing as well.

He's definitely a catalyst on this team, and we need his bat to heat up again.

He is lazy and pisses me off but I would be more concerned with Konerko, Crede, CF, SS, and middle relief (White/ Gordon,) rather than Jimenez. I think he will wake up one of these days. I like his approach to hitting. Hell, bring up Miles and DH Jimenez.

We really need a centerfielder, anyone that can play any type of defense.

I never said the Sox were "hot" -- I said we were winning. And when you look at it, we at one point were like 5 games over .500 in '03. That's nothing great, but it's a whole lot better than we are now. And at that time, Jimenez was hitting like .350 and was mashing the ball all over the field.

And if Jimenez isn't getting on base for guys like Frank and Magglio, who will Frank and Magglio drive in? Solo HR's don't do much for the team. 2, 3, and 4-run HR's sure do, though.

Getting rid of the Sox most consistant hitter this year isn't a good idea. Jimenez has cooled some, but is still hitting in the .280's. He is 2nd on the team in walks and has done a very good job leading off. If the Sox are going to get back into contention they are going to need the middle of the order to start hitting, but they will also need someone at the top of the order getting on base, and Jimenez is that guy. Who do the Sox leadoff with if not Jimenez? And don't say Miles. Miles is a career minor leaguer with no plate disipline. His .300 OBP would be great at the top of the order(J/K). He is just as bad defensively as Jimenez and if you think Jimenez doesn't have great speed, than wait until you see Miles. Miles makes Jimenez look like the 2nd coming of Micheal Johnson when it comes to speed. Miles is a young TonyG. He is a future utility player and nothing more. Jimenez is the present and future at 2nd base. Lets hope we can get a new manager that is know for motivating his players, and hopefully will teach Jimenez to give it his all on the field. If this is how good Jimenez is when he isn't trying, imagine how good he could be if he was motivated. Getting rid of Jimenez is probably one of the worst ideas I have heard all year.

IMO, DJ is putting great leadoff numbers. And he does a great job with his patience and that give some to the other players to watch who they will face. Get rid of DJ wont help, we definetely would get in trouble trying to find other leadoff hitter.

Sounds like the house is divided on Mr. Jiminez.  LOL

And speaking of Rowand, expect to see him back in CF for the Sox soon.

I'drather not picture it. Rather have Rios if not Borchard.

Yanks didn't go for Kenny Lofton and the Pirates are still shopping him. We knock a few games off that lead and we inquire about Kenny returning here? I know this has been talked about alotlately, but we need him back for the rest of this season and possibly next.

let us be realistic HSC, Jimenez could be batting .400 with 15 homers and 50 RBIs right now and you'd still somehow say he's hurting this team. been on his ass since day one.

Of course. Her bias for Miles has reared its ugly head for months now.

Chicks just don't dig DJ.

Heather and Steff hate him too. Perhaps a trip to a dermatologist (and a front teeth specialist) can do wonders for his luck among the ladiez.

I agree with Rafa and ws61382 - even with his month-long slump, DJ is still one of the best young leadoff hitters in the game. If he should become aggressive on 2-1/3-1 fastballs, he will be even better. He is too tentative while ahead on the count and takes too many first-pitch strikes down the middle. Pitchers are starting to "cheat" on him like did with Farnk Thomas.

However, his defense and baserunning leave much to be desired. On the D., he has cost the Sox literally twice as many runs as Jose the Terrible has (8 to 4 counting the Cleveland game), his range is worse than I expected and his SS arm is overrated if you judge by mechanically poor feeds and bad release. On the base-paths, he's been pretty bad, running us out of innings, comitting mental errors, not taking extra bases and not executing hit-n-runs well. Jose Valentin is much older and slower than DJ and yet he is 3 times the baserunner.

So, like I've been saying earlier this year while warding off Jimenez haters, it all comes down to suspect work ethic , and I don't think DJ is working nearly enough on his running and defense at this point. There is no reason for him not to be a 20 SB/good defensive, he certainly has the talent.

Well could this "attitude" be accountable for the rest of the team's baserunning? I mean, you got guys like CLee who can't run the bases for the life of him, and nobody's questioning his work ethic. Maybe intelligent and aggressive baserunning isn't DJ's thing. Maybe there needs to be a speedy leadoff hitter playing CF, dropping DJ down to #2.

I can't explain baserunning, that will come with work, but defensively, I look at the fact that this is his first full season at one position. he's been bounced between short, third and second until he came to the sox. I think it is rather harsh to say someone isn't a good defensive player when he hasn't been given the chance.

Right now, Jimenez is an above average with the potential to be a good player. people need to lay off him and wait and see.
