I friend of mine and his wife just gave birth to a baby. Everyone is doing fine. What I found interesting is that the soon to be Godmother and another close family friend were in attendance. Is this a new thing? There is no way the mother of my children would have wanted anyone there.

maybe they are scientoligists.

At the hospital or in the room? I was in the room for my nephew, but that was mainly because I was the back-up coach if my brother-in-law couldn't make it there in time. But everyone in our family was there. As well, most of the family was there for Mia's birth (at the hospital, not in the room). I will have my sister with me when I give birth as well as Jim of course.

I guess it depends on how close they are? My sister was fine with me being there (I was a bit freaky with it though), but daughter-in-law would have been mortified if her sisters had asked (one of them is the Godmom).

Nope, not relatives, just friends. I wonder if they brought snacks?

Like I said, I guess it depends on how close they are. I know several folks who are closer with their friends of many years than they are with their "family".

My wife watches those baby shows on TLC all the time and sometimes I'm amazed at the people they bring into the room. Not to mention the person holding the camera...

If I am ever lucky enough to have a baby, the only people other than medical staff that I want in the room are Brian and my sister.
