He was a dead fastball hitter, you're right.

Joe Crede doesn't deserve 10 million dollars, regardless of how many years that deal would be worth.

He's a 10 mill a year player if he can duplicate last years numbers. I think he's capable of similar numbers and I think he's the type of guy that could be a very very good player. I'd never consider him a super star though because I don't think of him ever developing into more than a 5 hitter. However, when you add in above average offensive ability with gold glove defense, well thats value. Plus the whole leadership qualities and all that jazz help too.

I just have a hard time seeing him make at or around what David Ortiz makes, even if Ortiz doesn't play in the field.

Any player with an on-base percentage struggling to get past .300, regardless of if they slug over .500, isn't as helpful as 10-12 million normally translates to be. Joe Crede shouldn't and won't get 10 million no less 12 ever in my opinion.

 

Adrian Beltre got just under $13 mill a year and a limited no trade clause over 5 years for 1 outstanding season and gold glove defense. What makes you think Joe Crede can't get the same contract with 2-3 years of very good offensive years and gold glove defense?

I should add that Beltre's season was arguably the best single season ever by a 3rd baseman.

Alot of players make that much money, and dont produce as much as ortiz.

I suppose what I should have been preaching is that Joe Crede doesn't deserve that amount of money. He very well might get it from some team stupid enough to give it to him ala Seattle w/ Beltre, I just don't want that team to be the White Sox.

He also did it in one of the bigger pitchers parks in the game. What a season that was, if he played like he was in a contract year all the time, he'd be incredible.

Not many players deserve the money they are paid, but the market dictates the value of a player.

The market does dictate the value of that player, but smart ball clubs don't give in to the dictated market value if it's a bad, or in this case, terrible long term investment.

This I'd definitely agree with. However, he had years of mediocrity before that season, so basically one season got him $64 mill. If Joe Crede puts up 3 years of .280 30 100 .830 offense with GG defense, he's going to get 5/50, and he could even be looking at more with Boras as his agent.
