Blanco signs 2 year deal with Cubs

Featured Replies

I know there were more than a few people here who liked him as a backup option for the Sox...so to shoot that idea down...

Blanco signs 2 year extension with Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs and backup catcher Henry Blanco agreed to a $5.25 million, two-year contract Wednesday with an option for 2009.

Blanco batted .266 in 74 games last season. He served as a backup to Michael Barrett and filled in when Barrett missed most of the last month after being hit in the groin with a foul tip.

Thats a lot of money for a backup. But with whats out there right now, it was a good signing.

I was hoping the sox would of picked him up. He would of been a nice right handed bat to complement AJ in the catchers position.

Jim Hendry with yet again another crappy signing and waste of money

He's overspending like crap, but Blanco is a really good backup. Plus, Hendry doesn't care about these contracts, only the players. Hendry has 2 years left until his contract is out, and he's depserate considering how bad their organization is personnel wise right now.
