Is it going to be turned back on?

Maybe I missed it, but was it just turned on to save traffic? Or has it been off for awhile now?

During high activity times we have it off and with the recent flurry of activities and action we've deemed it appropriate to keep it off till the rumors die down.

You can pretty much assume whenever there are a couple hundred people on the site, or MYSQL connections errors are popping up, the search engine is the first of a few things to go.

Basically, when someone does a search and it hangs up, the requests for information on the rest of the site (the day to day stuff) starts backing up. If two or more of those get stuck when the traffic is high, the site starts slowing down, or if really bad, freezes up while the search request(s) are being performed.

If the search is for something really small or hard to find, the program won't process the rest of the requests behind it until it finishes the first request (in this case, the search that's bogging things down).

Hopefully that explains the issue better.
