December 22, 200619 yr My computer has been getting slower and slower as the weeks go on and it's gotten to the point now where it takes 20ish minutes to load up. Then today I got this message... I have an Insprion 1000 with a message stating: SMART failure predicted on hard drive 0:FUJITSU MHT2040AT-(PM) WARNING: immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. Press F1 to continue It loaded after i pressed f1, but this doesn't seem to bode well for the future. Would just getting a new hard drive fix the problem?
December 22, 200619 yr I got that on my old laptop and replaced the hard drive. On my current laptop I've been getting the blue screen a death pretty frequently. Oh well.

Then you would have to reinstall windows. Do you hear any clicking sounds from the hard drive?

December 22, 200619 yr QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 12:45 AM) actually started to notice a little bit today. Then yes the hard drive will probably fail soon so if you don't already have your data backed up, you should do so. Hopefully you have a restore disc for windows so when you do replace the hard drive you can just pop in the disc and boot from it. By the way, usually a hard drive problem wouldn't make your computer run slow, but it does happen. I recommend Western Digital hard drives. If you have any questions feel free to pm me.

Hard drives are cheap and replacing now instead of after a complete failure will save you a lot of grief.

December 24, 200619 yr QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 24, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) how so? If you replace before, you can copy everything onto the new drive. If you wait for your current drive to crash, the data, programs, operating system, etc. will probably not be recoverable.

(it's mostly just music)

December 26, 200619 yr My laptop is totally pissing me off. When I hook it up to a router with an ethernet cord, it'll just keep saying "acquiring network address." When I try using the wireless card I get the same thing with an excellent signal strength and an error about the IP address (it's 0.0.0.0.) I spent 45 minutes with the tech guy from Comcast, but nothing worked. I'm going to try and reinstall Windows, but if that doesn't work, I think I'll just go out and buy a new laptop.

You have any other computers you can test? It seems to me you might have DHCP turned off on your router.
December 27, 200619 yr QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Dec 26, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have any other computers you can test? It seems to me you might have DHCP turned off on your router. My dad's desktop computer is hooked into the router and it is fine. My brother's desktop computer is wireless and the internet is fine. I continue to get the blue screen of death on my laptop and even after I restart, I can still never connect to the internet. Better start shopping for a new laptop. I just need something to surf the internet, hook my ipod upto, use microsoft office (but not too extensively) and be able to use wirelessly. EDIT: I just did a system restore to a few days ago and I got my connection going. Edited December 27, 200619 yr by santo=dorf
