February 22, 200719 yr I have been thinking about buying a Roomba, the robotic vacuum cleaner most of you have likely seen on TV. Does anyone have one? I'd like some info if anyone has any experience with them. Roomba They are currently selling it for $264 (w/ discount code) including an accessory kit or $179.99 for a refurbished model. Thoughts??
February 22, 200719 yr I have a friend who has had one for a couple years and swears by it. Personally, I fear that if I got one, it would be the one unit in the bunch that achieved sentience and revolted to kill me in my sleep.
February 22, 200719 yr Nah, there is a better chance it would be your wife after living with you all of those years... Sleep well
February 22, 200719 yr I've got one and while it works decently (well, not anymore), it's not that remarkable. It tends to get caught in things like curtains, rugs, and furniture, which causes it to cry to be set free. Now something's wrong with it and it won't run for more than 3 seconds. It probably needs a new battery but I was never happy enough with it to look into fixing it which is telling. We mostly got it to keep hardfloors clean because sweeping sucks, but we still had to sweep after it. If you let it run a cycle daily, it will probably do a decent job for you, but don't set your expectations too high.

February 22, 200719 yr QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) Such a great picture. "Help me!" I have a dream where every Roomba is free . . .
February 22, 200719 yr My thoughts: It's not that hard to clean with a normal vacuum every once in a while. We are extremely lazy.
February 22, 200719 yr QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) My thoughts: It's not that hard to clean with a normal vacuum every once in a while. We are extremely lazy. I bet if somebody were to invent a full-size vacuum with a remote control they'd make millions. Give it technology so you can control it from anywhere in the world using your computer it'd be even better... Edited February 22, 200719 yr by Iwritecode
February 22, 200719 yr I have one and havent used it after the first few tries. We have hardwood floors and some rugs laying around and it cant go from floor to rug. The only fun I had with it is using the remote and having it chase my dog. Its absolutely not worth the money (unless you have a curious dog)
February 22, 200719 yr Here's a picture of my Roomba. If we drop any food on the floor, he races in and cleans it up immediately! He's not as effective on non-food debris....
