Gone with the search engine I'd imagine. Less strain on the server.

Thats precisely it. The search engine was being run so much, while gamethreads were going on, lots of people on the boards, and it was leading to the "Too many connections" messages you'd see becase too many people were hitting refresh over and over and over. Huge strain on things.
