June 4, 200718 yr NEW YORK (AP) -- Tank Johnson of the Chicago Bears was suspended by the NFL for the first eight games of the 2007 regular season for violating the league's new personal conduct policy. The defensive tackle recently served a two-month jail stint on a probation violation on gun-related charges. Goodell said Johnson's suspension could be reduced to six games if he has no further involvement with law enforcement and undergoes counseling. After meeting with Goodell last month upon his release, Johnson said he was ready to accept whatever punishment Goodell handed down and that he wants to become the NFL's "Man of the Year," the player honored for being its best citizen. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Ag5T...p&type=lgns Sounds about right. Hopefully he can keep his nose clean and get it reduced to 6.
June 4, 200718 yr I guessed 6 when I heard a few things that the commissioner was consider "real world" punishment as a factor. So, if he can actually get it to 6, about what I expected. Good luck to him
June 4, 200718 yr I thought 4 games since he sat out 1 last year. Edited June 4, 200718 yr by Soxfest
June 4, 200718 yr Many people are shocked about this thinking it would be 2-4 games, taking last years suspension into account and the time he served in the clink. This new commish definitely has a bug up his azz, and that does not bode well for Ron Mexico. If he doenst get suspended at this point, this could get real ugly with profiling. I don't see why people would be shocked given that this was a multiple-offense thing for Tank and unlike the other 2 guys he actually spent some time in jail.
June 5, 200718 yr 8 is what I expected I hope he can get it reduced to 6 because the one and only thing I am not liking for the Bears this year is the DT Rotation with Harris coming off an injury
June 5, 200718 yr IMO, a good move by the commish. Next stop, suspending that piece of trash Michael Vick.
June 5, 200718 yr I liked how Tank and Lovie addressed it on Comcast last night saying that they were treating it as a 6 game suspension because he is fully capable of performing above the Comish's expectations. I really truly believed him when he said that and I think the constant support of the team and the coach have a ton to do with that.
June 5, 200718 yr Also, if you read DAvid Haugh's article today in the Trib, Tank can still have individual workout sessions, can go to OTA's, training camp and can play in preseason games. Roger Goodell is doing an excellent job of taking other issues into consideration before meting out punishment.
