A Clue as to How Ozzie Feels

Featured Replies

I went through the Sports Illustrated commemorative edition of the White Sox in 2005. It was lost in an old bag that I recently had to go through to find some things I'd stashed in there that I had to return. (Old books. Seriously!)

In it, there's a look at Ozzie's days with Montreal where it says he once turned in an end-of-the-year-player-review by only reviewing four players because "they're the only ones that can play."

That is how he must feel right now. Can't say I blame him. This isn't his type of team. Or any manager's, really. Power relievers that have no power or control; power hitters with no power; a lineup with no speed; hitters who don't know how to bunt.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty interesting.

Let's have some fun... and speculate as to who.

Obviously, Vlad. I figure Vidro too. If you count just half a year, I figure Bartolo is another. Then I'm torn on the final one; does he interview the veteran Galarraga, the so often used Latino reference Orlando Cabrera, the patient, homer or nothing Wilkerson, the numbers starter in Ohka, or the horse of the staff, Javier Vazquez.

I say Vazquez, just cuz I'm a Havy Jomer.

I thought for sure you were going to reference Ozzie's Sept 2005 slide with that stuff about throwing up before/after games because of pressure. ... Myself I usually throw up during games with the heaviest flow coming when Ozzie goes to the bullpen.

He's a big Vazquez fan, so it makes sense.

Gotta be Cabrera.

He's like Ozzie with a little more power. Doesn't walk much, steals some bases, gold glover, grinder, and he's a small shortstop.

So who would Ozzie say "can play" on this team? Who would you say?

Really! Who COULD he name right now?

Erstad was the only one making a name for himself until he got hurt.

Right now I'm unimpressed/disgusted with all of them. Save for maybe Buehrle and Garland. Jenks.

Thome, because hes ridiculous. Erstad, because he said so himself. Terrero, because he's been pretty fun since getting his call up. And then maybe Iguchi, but that's give or take, really.

Pitching, Jenks, Garland, Buehrle, Vazquez almost have to be. And Danks, Contreras, and Logan are probably give or take too. I think he has to be very happy with how the rotation has pitched, but he can't get past it because of how poor the bullpen has been and how terrible the offense has been.

Also: I'm not sure he was talking about anything more than hittters in the Montreal system. Maybe his review was of pitchers, too, but I don't know. The article wasn't specific.

Orlando Cabrera has turned into a fantastic player. I used to think he was awful, but he's really flourished batting in front of Vlad.

Making a name for himself as a mediocre ballplayer. Thome, Terrero, Buehlre, Garland, Logan, Vazquez, Danks and Jenks are the only ones who have put together productive seasons thus far.

Yea f*** Javy Vazquez and that rookie John Danks.

Yeah, you're right. I just had higher hopes for Vazquez this season, he's been very productive and an above average starter but really expected dominance. I just flat out forgot about Danks.
